I need help troubleshooting a problem before I bring my EB to the hobby shop.
my 1970 bronco has a 302, with a 3 speed manual transmission, and i belive a dana 20 T-case. Heres the problem, when i let of the clutch normally as I would in any other man, my bronco shakes violently, so bad that it shook the battery out of holder and the steering shaft disconnected from the box  . I can reduce the shaking by leting of the clutching as lightly as i can, but when i engage the T-case in either 4H or Low the shaking subsides...I had a coworkr take a look and he says theres still shake when the case is engaged. Id appreciate any input you folks have...so then all i have to worry about is how to put my steering back together.. Thanks, G

Good old fashioned clutch chatter. Replace the clutch and resurface the flywheel to get rid of it. Don't just do the cluch, do both. While you're in there make sure there is no oil leaking on to these parts. Loose motor or tranny mounts will make the problem worse, but don't actually cause it.

thanks for the quick reply, now i need to figure out how to get me steering rod secured to the box, Is there a retaining clip, or some other device that holds it in place. I cant find anything that looks right. I cant find anything online or at a parts store, or a good book with an IPB of the manual steering box Ihave. It looks like therea e 2 sleeves that slip on to square off the dogbone to make more surface area for a retainer ring..if there was one..I dont know what secured it but I find it hard to believe that a retainer ring was the sole facter in securing the steering shaft to the box %) ....other than that, Does anybody have any suggestions what type of clutch i should get...and maybe what the pros and cons on the various types are? Thanks, G

Don't over look motor mounts, tranny mounts and rear springs as the cause of clutch chatter too.

You really need to fix that steering & battery problem.

check around the Herc, gota be some spare parts that will fit the Bronco.

I just removed some fuel line from my Bronco it once resided in a helicopter as hydraulic line.

The box gear is splined and has a groove in it about midway, the lower steering shaft should slide over the splines and a bolt through the joint (u-joint or rag joint depending on year), which secures it. Without a picture, its hard to say otherwise. The LUK clutches are good and pretty reasonable (~$160-200). Some people like the Centerforce IIs (~$300), but its just about how much you want to spend. Nothing wrong with a LUK. I wouldnt put anything but those two clutches in my truck. It sounds like you have clutch issues and othe problems to boot. Mis-matched gear ratio to tires can also cause some chatter/hop. I would assume that you have also already examined your drivelines for trashed U-joints, right??

Mine did the same and I agree with using only a LUK or Centerforce. Make sure to measure the flywheel when it is surfaced to make sure you have enough left to surface. I didn't and ended up pulling the clutch for a second time to put a new flywheel in. In the mean time, you may be able to adjust your clutch to make it easier to let out slower.

It sounds like clutch chatter. Replace with new clutch, disc and throwout bearing and resurface the flywheel. Also you need to check the centerline alignment of the crank and input shaft, If it is off than that could be also your problem. This happens most with aftermarket blowbells and new clutches. If yours is stock check to see if the dowels that align the motor to trans is in place and not worn out or out of round.

Check for any engine oil getting on the flywheel , rear main seal , valve covers or intake manifold end seal . Oil will make it jump and shiver like a dog passing a peach seed !

Thanks for all the great info everyone. It looks like im going to be ordering a new clutch, I forgot to mention, that when the truck is in gear and moving it shifts around just fine, only when engaging the clutch from a start is when the shaking happens, Ive checked all of my drive lines and U joints, and running gear and they are all solid and secure, plus theres no oil leaking from the back of the engine nor is there a sizeable amount of oil that is visible. I bought the truck off an Idi.....uh inexpierianced mechanic who bought for the same reason as me, except hes got an angry wife (at least she seemed pretty anxious to get rid of it when I met her) and 3 kids...I dont think theres such a thing as to much information when it comes to problems like, so if anyone feels that they can still contribute please do, Im young and stupid and can only learn more. Thanks Again, G

I had the same problem after driveing 15miles or so 60mph+ with my e-brake set. I basically exploded my clutch and fried the through out bearing...but I already had a C4 tranny on the way and just swapped it out.
