dual or single rear shocks

I noticed yesterday that one of my shock supports on the frame is about rusted off. The Bronco is a 73, no lift and mostly stock, but the shocks do look like they have been modified. It has single shocks which mount between the leaf springs and wheel. I was considering switching to dual shocks, if I am going to have to get under there and do this. What are the benefits of going dual? I'm new to this, so please explain.
The Bronco doesn't see alot of heavy 4x4 action, but does see a lot of rough dirt roads. It's our daily driver. Thanks for the help.

Dual shocks will control the movement of the springs better and dissipate heat better than a single shock. The single shock will overheat and fade much more quickly.

Quite frankly, for most people, dual shocks are a waste of $$$ unless you like the bling factor. Unless you're into high speed off road racing you probably don't need them and won't notice any difference between dual shocks and a high quality single shock.

My opinion of dual shocks is that it simply enables you to run more than one inadequate shock... 2 inadequate shocks = 1 properly valved shock. This being said, in an effort to tighten up my rear suspension I added a second pair of (cheapo) shocks that I had laying around and it definitely helped - this was mainly a test of my theory that my single (cheapo) shocks were inadequate for the handling I was looking for. Next on my list is a pair of single heavy duty shocks, likely billsteins or maybe adjustable Rancho RS9000s.
