TIKO433 - I used an NP205 to skip having to take it the 4R70W apart and no adapters. Bolted together after some grinding to clear a boss. I ended up making a crossmember it took a few hours not too bad.

Yep, I did the same thing. Went 205 after busting three '20s...
much beefier internals. Only downside is the low range gearing. Nice that it bolts right up to the 4R. Allmost like they were meant tobe together... :D

I think my closest match is a 95-96 5.0 F150. These came factory with 4R70W, MASS, TFI. I don't mind getting some tuning. At least programming could be done via OBD2. I like the idea of OBD2 so I could hook up my tablet and get real time engine info.

95-96 F-150's would have had the E4OD tranny.
The 4R70W is a better tranny for our eb's anyway.

The last time I was at the junk yard I was looking at 5.0 explorer and wondering about the transfer case. I guess I could find away to adapt EDIS on a 351W again. I wonder if I go back to a 5.0 if I will be disappointed with the lack of torque.

Under no circumstances would I go with a smaller engine if I had a choice!
