So pulling 66 170 drivetrain for 5.0 swap and curious about mods necessary to drop in 68 Falcon Ranchero born with 6 cylinder? Looks doable but wonder if missing something. Thanks.

When you say drivetrain - do you mean trans and D20, too? To get rid of the D20 for the Ranchero, you'll need a transmission with the correct output shaft and tail piece. The 170 will fit but be a little small in a '68. Didn't the '68 come with a 200 or 250?

They didnt have a 1968 Falcon Ranchero, would be a Fairlane. I couldn't imagine how sluggish that Ranchero would be with a 170 six and 3.25 ear axle.

Hi, if the Ranchero had a 200 6 the oil pan will be different for sure, if it is auto trans there is that also. The basic engine is the same. See Fordsix.com for more Ford six info. Good luck

Just to drag this out a little, the 200 was not an option on a '68 Ranchero, the 250 was. Engine will fit the same in there, though. Still a lot of Ranchero for a little bit of cubic inches.
Could have gotten a 170 or 200 in 1967. Bet that was a slow option.
