Well I've been here a while & usually don't say much, but that's gonna change I guess. I purchased a 71 locally from a member here & I'm sure I will have a ton of questions as I proceed with the build. This will be my first project of this magnitude & I will be learning as I go. Please be patient with me!!

I had posted a few days ago asking for opinions on how to proceed & have decided to patch it up & do some medium mods then drive it for a while. When time, life, family, & money permit I'll do it from the bottom up.

Here's my plans:
- Patch up the body (some of it has been started but there's alot more to do)
- 3.5" BL & 1" BL
- NP435
- Disk braked D44
- Power Steering conversion
- Crab Cage
- New Seats all the way around
- quickie paint job
- some bumpers
- Lockers of some sort

Here's some pics of where I'm starting from - the last pic is preparing for the long journey ahead;D .

Unforntunately, I had to supply the brews.

It'll be cut. Just my personal opinion but the uncut look doesn't do anything for me. My 73 was cut too & I'm gonna go higher than that one was. I know some don't approve of doing that but to each his own, right?

Speaking of cutting, how do I figure out the line I want? I was assuming I get my warflares & figure out where I want them, trace a line around them then remove & cut about an inch or so lower than the line?

Yeah get the flares and tape them on where you want them then trace around and then cut in about an inch.
No prob on the cut, have fun with it, looking forward to seeing the progress!

Sounds like a cool project. Are you going to have it done in time for Summer  I would guess yes!

I'm not sure how quickly I can move on this. I'm a novice with little knowledge & experience with bronco repair, but it seems straight forward enough. Time is the real problem right now. Wife has a long "honey-do" list which I've been informed needs to be completed before any serious bronco time is invested & work is busy pretty right now. I may get close for the summer time but most likely it will be end of summer if at all. I also get a case of the might-as-wells when I do things so all the stuff I think I'll overlook now may end up getting repaired as I go. Who knows. I'm just glad to have a bronco again!!

I'll get pics as I go.

enjoy. and my unsolicited $.02 on the cut/uncut issue--if you've got a pristine, low mileage, original interior, etc uncut bronco, then it's a bummer to see it get cut. but when you've got a rusted rig which requires a world of fixing up anyway, then just do it how you like it. it's your rig, have fun with it!

Question about your trailer

Carhauler,, Nice plan and project ,,,,

what size is your trailer? Does you EB fit on there OK,, any issues? I want to buy a trailer for mine so I can commence to hauling parts for the rebuild when the time comes.

How wide is it? If you had larger / wider tires is the width still OK.

just trying to get some idees

We must have been twins seperated at birth. Nothing better than an old EB and some of the best LAGER ever made. I am currently searching for my first project and will be following your posts to hopefully learn as you go. Keep us up to date with your progress with lots of pics please. I hope to have a little pony back in my life soon, already prepared with the lager. Think I might pop one right now to celebrate for you! Cheers!

Oh, you know you could pay someone to take care of the HDL so you can get work on the bronco! Besides, someone else will get the HDL done quicker and better right?;) Good luck and GET TO WORK!

Looks like a fun project but, then again, aren't they all really? I commend you on your choice of beverage as well. A good friend of mine from PA introduced me to it when we went back east for his wedding a few years ago....DEEEEELICIOUS.

BTW: if you do cut her, I would bet that someone will be interested in taking the cutouts off of your hands. Especially if you cut wide for the Warflares....should leave that precious extra metal that a guy looking to restore his cut fenders will need to patch 'em in. Just a thought! Enjoy!

Did some serious damage to the honey-do list & when out to start tinkering for the first time tonite. Got some questions.

The PO had started replacing panels on the drivers side ( maybe he'll chime in) & I got 2 hinge posts (used , not new) with the bronc, along with a bunch of other panels too. I printed out the measurement sheet from the site here & started fitting things up. With the hinge post in place according to the sheet, when I try to fit the rocker panel in, it wont come up all the way to sit flush with the floor pan. Seems like the post should go up higher to make the rocker sit right. It looks like I could trim the bottom of the windshield frame a little to make it come up higher but that would mess up the other measurements (not by much though), or I could trim the bottom of the post to get the rocker to come up some. Which is the best way to do this? I'm planning to put inserts in & don't even have doors so is it a big deal as long as the inserts will fit in the opening? I mean I don't want to do a botched up job but this will not be a show winner either way. Anyone?

Not sure. I only have one & it came with the truck. Grauerfam is the PO, maybe he will shed some light. It is a full rocker though.

looks just like this. This picture is from the WH catolog.

I said above I could trim the wind shield frame, I didn't mean the frame itself but the area just above the door post & under the area the windshield bolts to. Sorry for the lack of terminology, I'm green. I'll get a pic in the morning.
