I was just wondering if it was aftermarket or a stock piece. The floor piece or inner rocker could be off a little too I guess.

Not sure. I only have one & it came with the truck. Grauerfam is the PO, maybe he will shed some light. It is a full rocker though.

Why don't you just give Larry a call and see if this is something he was expecting to have to deal with and if so, what his plans were. I have never replaced rockers or door posts, but I don't think I'd start trimming metal up around the windshield frame. Someone on here will have the answer for ya...

Yeah, I guess I could do that. Just didn't want to be the PITA guy that buys something from you & then won't leave you alone. Heres some pictures of what I was trying to explain

cutting broncos makes baby Jesus cry. :

I'm a heeb so I don't think Jesus is watching too closely. My wife & kids are Irish Catholic so maybe he looks in here a little, but I thought he only cried if you cut the rear quarters.

I'll have to leave some kleenex in the offering plate during Easter service ( wife makes me go so the kiddies don't look fatherless) 'cause he going to be unhappy with me in a month or so.

Looks like a fun project but, then again, aren't they all really? I commend you on your choice of beverage as well. A good friend of mine from PA introduced me to it when we went back east for his wedding a few years ago....DEEEEELICIOUS.

BTW: if you do cut her, I would bet that someone will be interested in taking the cutouts off of your hands. Especially if you cut wide for the Warflares....should leave that precious extra metal that a guy looking to restore his cut fenders will need to patch 'em in. Just a thought! Enjoy!

I used to drink cheap beer until about a year ago when my neighbor turned me onto Yuengling during a crabbing trip. I was hooked from then on. Wasn't really a big drinker after college....until he & I buddied up;D

I read another thread here about saving cut outs & had planned on doing just that but after looking my quarters over, it may not be useful to anyone with the rust & all. I'm a packrat by nature so they will be here for a while I assume.

Didn't get to play with the bronc much this weekend due to work but I have accepted the fact that I gotta lay out some coin to build a shed for all the crap that used to sit where the bronco is now. So I guess before any real progress is acheived I'll be doing some grading & building a shed:cry: .

Carhauler,, Nice plan and project ,,,,

what size is your trailer? Does you EB fit on there OK,, any issues? I want to buy a trailer for mine so I can commence to hauling parts for the rebuild when the time comes.

How wide is it? If you had larger / wider tires is the width still OK.

just trying to get some idees

I don't know how I missed these earlier posts. Ponygurl, the trailer is a 6'5" x 16' & the bronco fit just fine. I had plenty of room on both sides but it was loaded a little cock-eyed to bring it home. I've tried to load a friend's f-250 on there & it wouldn't fit. Full width axles are probably not possible unless you have big rubber on them to get the hubs up over the rails. That trailer is a Kempner & while it looks like crap, I have abused the hell out of it & it's still here. It's rated for 7000lbs & I know I've had more than 8000 on it without question. It's probably to long for homeowner use but it was a good deal when I bought it so I took it.

73+69, I hope for yer sake you don't look anything like me!;D I can't see paying someone to do the BS work on the HDL. I'd just bitch about it not being done my way anyway. Shouldn't take too long now that I got a reason to get it done. Thanks for the cheers.

Tasker, come on down & I'll put you up in the "guest house" (see pic) if you can teach me a thing or two about fixing this thing up. A member from a diesel board I'm active on came up from Fayetteville, NC to help me re-build my Powerstoke after I windowed the block & he spent 3 nites in it. He didn't want to leave!

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone.

Hey Scott, I didn't think you'd be starting to mess with the Bronco yet. You are starting where I left off so I haven't gotten into those issues. But, let me say this, body panel replacement on a 30+ year old Bronco is not an exact science. You're gonna have to fudge a little here and a little there. That rocker came from JBG and is one of the better stock type replacements. The hinge post, even thou it's fugly lookin cause of the red paint, is more than likely a Ford part as it was taken off a previously repaired Bronco before aftermarket stuff was available. I look at the door hinge post as being more important placement wise than the rocker. The front fender attatches to it as well as the door hanging on it. The rocker, on the other hand, basically is just filling the space below the door and in between the fender and quarter panel. I would try and install the door post as close as possible to the dimensions shown on that sheet. Even thou you're not planning on running doors now, plans change and you may want to in the future. ( You ARE going to keep this Bronco forever, right? ) Then the rocker can be adjusted for the best fit. Trimming the bottom of the post as you suggested may be better than moving it up and throwing off the other measurements. You've got my cell # - don't hesitate to call. I've been known to help drink other peoples beer also, hint, hint.

made a little progress & some pics.

Thanks Larry. If you take the ride out here, Beer is cold & plentiful. I couldn't resist playing so I got started. I got the door post on & welded in. I had to trim some off the kick panel & just clean up under the windshield a little & it went up where it belongs. It's hard to tell exactly where those arrows were pointing in the mearsurement sheet but I followed it pretty much dead on as I interpreted it. I think it's right. I don't think doors will ever be on it but if so, I'll worry about it then.

I decided to tackle the striker post & got started tonite. First bonehead mistake. Didn't see any spotwelds in the middle of the post & started pulling & yanking thinking it was rust holding it in (and because I had no real idea what was behind there) & twisted up the inner rear skirt on the end. The seam where the outer quarter & inner meet is in bad shape (see pic). This is supposed to be a patch job but I'm trying to decide how long it will be before I HAVE to do this again if I don't fix / replace this now. Any thoughts? I was also going to try to repair the rot in the outer quarter at the same time. Most will be cut away for the flares but the top & edge where I'll weld to the striker post are totally gone. Where do I go from here?

Sorry for the crooked pics. Please don't laugh too hard at the welds. I'm used to welding on my car carriers. This thin stuff is screwing me up!!!

Whats involved in removing the whole side? The top rail looks to be in good shape. Could I do the inner fender without taking everything else off? It needs filler neck covers & a wheel well tub on that side too.

I, m not to sure on the order of replacing parts. In the pictures above, the pass. floorpan is just sitting on top of the old original pan. Should I cut out the old pan & put the new pan in before I do the kickpanel or kickpanel first then floor?

I've made some headway & got the pass floor pan in. Slow but steady. I had started a thread in the tech section so I'll just link it here. More pictures of the progress there.

Made a little more progress. I try to work on it a few hours a nite to clear my head some. Nothing big but I thought it was pretty cool because this is my first go at stuff like this. Finished getting the pass floor (just have to grind the spot welds) down & cut the rocker off to see how bad the inner rocker was. Rotted at the front & back bottom corners. Instead of replacing the whole thing (money is TIGHT, got wacked HARD in taxes) I just cut up some good sections of the old floor pan & replaced the rotted sections. Pics below. Seems like I'm talking to myself here!
