I decided to join the wideband revolution and verify my 302's carb tuning with a PE bluetooth kit. About 20 yrs ago I put an offroad kit in the carb and played around with the jets and rods, doing it old school (stopwatch and that seems good/bad). I'm at 1,000 ft altitude. As I recall, this jet/rod combo is richer than stock, but not as rich as my first try, which absolutely cratered my already dismal mpg. I don't remember which jets I have in it but the initial run is with yellow 4” Hg springs and #1456 rods. My goal was AFR's of idle: 14.2, WOT: 12, Cruise: 15. I ended up going to a 8” spring as I had a lean spike when vacuum went below 10 in Hg. Runs pretty well now!

You're lean. The springs won't make it richer. They just they just allow it to become richer at a different load. Use the metering rod/jet matrix to fix your lean condition first.

You're lean

I'm sorry, when? Idle, Cruise, WOT?

I have the numbers I was looking for. The table I was using is seen below, followed by a second table from another source:

That's exacly what I was thinking when I bought it! If I had a criticism of the unit, I wish it displayed an optional 5 second average, as the direct readings can be kind of bouncy. The trend line sort of does that below, but gives a graphical sense rather than a number.
