Edelbrock linkage help

Put a Edelbrock 600cfm on my 77 bronco 302 with an automatic transmission. Bought the kicksown part and bolted I to the carb but it sticks out toward the drivers side an extra like 2 inches and now I can't hook it up because it crosses over the throttle linkage. How do you guys have your kick downs set up?

I will have to do this same thing. I bought a generic lockar kickdown cable and a bracket from Summit.

This is an old pic, but you can see how the stock throttle linkage was modified to work with the Edelbrock.

This is how mine ended up. The angle looks funny but it worked good. I've removed the adapter now that I've gone to an manual tranny.

The extreme width of the AFBs can be a problem. I was able to put the ball stud for the accelerator on the inside so I got away with less bending of the rod to the bell crank. The kick down rod had to be tweaked a little too. Once I got the linkage and fuel line figured out, the AFB proved to be a great carb for a vehicle that only runs once or twice a week. There are no leaks and no gaskets or diaphragms to dry out.

Cables will solve all these issues gentlemen!

x2 here too.
We both sell cable kits for just that reason. I never used one on mine, so I can't help with any little details, but it looks pretty straightforward. Just dropped a kit off at a customer's yesterday, but never got to help put it on unfortunately. That would have been good timing!
I was able to retain the entire original EB rod linkage on my Carter install (including all the little fiddly/loose bell-crank bits and rods from the center firewall), so it must be very easy to do (if I could do it back then) ;).
But a cable should get rid of all the linkage, if for no other reason than for a cleaner install.

If I remember, one of the things I did to minimize the width issue was to reverse the ball-stud to face the inside, towards the carburetor. This knocked off something like an inch of width. Just might not be something do'able with an automatic trans kickdown lever, but I did not have to deal with that.

Cables? Baw! That's for lawn mowers.
Really though, cables always feel like they have some drag resistance. Just my opinion.

Yeah, they don't always like tight curves. But a good install is still a nice thing to live with.
Nothing inherently wrong with rods either, other than slop, binding and misalignments when modified. But cables can eliminate at least some of those right off the bat.

I always liked the simplicity of my '79. Pedal had a similar design to our EB's, with a single lever under the hood connected to the carburetor by, wait for it... A cable. But in this case, it was a stranded cable with no jacket. It was simply a "puller" and did not need any fancy brackets. No lubrication issues, no abrasion issues, no kinking issues.
Just some stainless line.

I think cables can cure a lot of headaches.
