I been putting some break in miles on new 347. I used all of the Explore electronics and I’m running a base tune for a local tuner. The motor was running very good until recently. It always had a squeal on acceleration which I suspected was the serpentine belt. With it loosing power and has noticeable miss, I checked the plugs, wires , injector wires. They all good. I pulled the cam synchronizer to look at it. This is a new Motor Craft Ford sycro. It has noticeable play in it. It was not like this when I installed it 300 miles ago. There is up and down play. When it pushed all the way up I’m sure it hits the black cap on the inside. I put my old one back in and it it ran better and I can hear it squeal too when I accelerate. Is where a HP limit on these things? I hope the cam is not damaged. No I’m second guessing keeping the Ford EFI stuff , maybe I should have gone with one of the Aftermarket EFI systems

I have a reman and the original one from my donor on the shelf. Both have play. I noticed the play in the reman and it prompted me to check out the old one and sure enough both had play. However the play is not as great as what you have in the first picture. The gap is closer to the 3rd picture.

Really wired ... so if I loosen the cap and push the shaft up it pushes the cap up. So it has to be making contact. I need the install tool . I put my old one in with out the tool and I have a miss on 4 and 7 . I swapped wires and coil packs no change. I’m hoping the tool will clear up the miss . I need to ask my tuner if they make high performance cam syco .

One thing I’ve read some have issues with the crank and cam sensor wire routing and shielding causing spark issues. I don’t recall the specifics but might be worth looking into.

Thanks I will check that out. I put a new Motorcraft cam sycro in it today. I used the tool to align it properly. It started right up but I still have a miss on 4 and 7. I have swapped wires and coil packs and it still shows up on a scanner the 4 and 7 are weak/missing Now I’m suspecting something wrong with the cylinder. Maybe a broken valve spring. I’m going to do compression test and noid test tomorrow. I never found a broken spring , Will it be obvious? At least I know to look at 4 and 7 ...

Even Motorcraft stuff isn't up to the quality it used to be. I ordered a new cam synchronizer for my 351W block and it was "crap". Didn't rotate smoothly, had lots of play.

Ordered another and I'm using it still.

HP doesn't matter. I'm running 600.

I think my write up might have been referenced above about wiring and spark issues with the crank sensor and cam synchronizer. The crank sensor wiring isn't colored or labeled. :) Makes it a 50/50 as to whether you can get it right the first time! However, if you were running good for a while it's not the wiring. It works, or doesn't.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Thanks ... I found it ... must have been a bad connection to the injectors. I moved the harness and secured it better and the miss was gone. Also what I thought was the cam sycro squeal , I now believe to be air flow. It’s a TrickFlow and BBK throttle body apparently is known for air flow noise. It not constant but at certain RPMs it does it then goes away. Something I need to get used too
