EFI fuel accumulator mounting

You're further down this road than I am.

I just cut open a used Sierra filter p/n 18-7850 (18-7844?) and that barrier is the bottom of the filter element, the volume below it is there to capture any water in the fuel. I know of no filter that doesn't have this feature, but that isn't to say that one doesn't exist. A taller filter, or perhaps those with a clear bowl on the bottom, may allow for a longer draw-straw & more available fuel volume.

EDIT:
I posted that filter p/n from memory, but am not finding it on the WM site. Looks like there may be filters w/o the water separating feature that would allow for a longer draw straw. You know what? This is a good thread and all. But all the words and descriptions are kind of confusing to follow and a little ambiguous as I read it. Not saying that it has not be described carefully. But I must have some mental baggage that is keeping me from understanding just what the heck is being described. It happens. I was hoping that someone would just post a drawing of the proposed "correct"way to do an accumulator. Otherwise I am left guessing.

There is no one correct way to do an accumulator, there are many. Some are better than others. I think BBowsher's earlier suggested plumbing method is the best way to do it if you want the return line to also fill the "accumulator" before going back to the tank.

We could get into a semantics discussion about "accumulator" is the wrong term since the fuel in these isn't stored under pressure. "Reservoir" is more correct, but I'm digressing.....

Can buy the BCB system and run with it. Can make what B^2 & I have been discussing lately in this thread from either the filter linked or something else. Or can do a real accumulator where you make a reservoir that stores the fuel under pump pressure. I did this and then abandoned it, but how I did it was to use a spare Bilstein remote reservoir and put a 'T' in it. Plan was a check valve on the pump side of the 'T' but I abandoned it because I concluded that the volume of stored fuel wasn't enough. Were I going to try something like this again I'd go looking for one of the hydraulic suspension reservoir/accumulators off of a Citroen DS19 (how's that for a weird & obscure part?).

Speed shop for my AN fittings is right by my sailboat and West Marine. I'm going to try that second one just for shiggles. Thanks for the tip, NTSQD!

Just slapped in a new radiator and it's a great day for a Bronco run in Houston! Cheers, B2

Reviewed the filter that I cut open, the p/n printed on it is what I said above. ?:?

You don't need an accumulator...
You can say this categorically for every EFI'd Early Bronco ever built, about to be built, or yet to be built regardless of how the fuel system is laid out? I think there's more than a few who will disagree.

You may not need one, which is great, but that doesn't apply to everyone including me. All rigs and operating environments are different.

x2! ;D its a little tough for me to follow too, but im not deep into that part of my build yet. i think if i was, id be able to follow a little better. good info though for sure and now im subscribed! ;D;D;D
