Equa-Lock carrier question for R&P sizes

I currently have a Equa-Lock in the 9" with stock 3.50 gears. I am looking to go with 4.10 R&P but before I order new gears I am not 100% sure of this carrier will support that 4.10 R&P. I know most carriers for 9" are 3.73 and down and you need to upgrade the carrier if you go 3.90 and up. Please clarify my doubt. Thanks.

I would hate to have to buy a new posi so I am hoping I can go 4.10 but I may just be stuck with 3.73 gears unless I want to spend the money for a new locker. I currently run 33" tires with NV 3550 and it is mostly on the street but I was looking for a more off the line performance.

Thanks.

False information. The Ford 9 inch has one carrier for all gear ratios.

You will need a different carrier for the front axle to change ratios, Dana differentials do have a carrier break.

I'm not exactly sure you need to swap the carrier in the D44 either. This description from Tom's on their "THICK" ring gear makes me believe you can use this style and keep your existing carrier unit.

Description
THICK Ratio Ring & Pinion for Dana 44 in 66-77 Ford Bronco. This THICK Ring & Pinion set allows you to install 4:11 gears in a 3-series Dana 44 carrier without changing the locker/carrier.

Yes, that is what those are for. I had forgotten them.

You can also use a lunch box type locker up front in the open carrier. Aussie Locker. It’s a ratcheting style locker 100% lock up. Behaves like a Detroit locker. I’ve been running one up front with a thick gear R&P for many years, 35” tires. While the lunch box locker isn’t as strong as a Detroit or Grizzly, mine hasn’t failed me yet. I don’t run much more than 200 hp, and I don’t beat on my drivetrain that hard. My Aussie locker has survived the last year with a gearing increase to 5.13’s, and tire size to 37”.

Thick gears are a great option if you don’t want to purchase another carrier, however they’re not offered in every ratio, and are not available in reverse spiral cut for high pinion use.
