What's the best lube to use to slide exhaust pipes and mufflers together the get it all set up right before clamping?

I always used nickel anti-seize. It doesn't help to seal, but it does make it easier if they ever have to come back apart. But that was long ago.... Welded on flanges are what I do now

I like the flange idea too. But I'd like it to be flexible so I can fanagle all the pipes and such to exactly where I want them before tightening it all up. I wonder if a person could flare out the ends of the exhaust pipe and the inlets of the muffler and put them together with some kind of a larger steel doughnut and clamping rings so they seal the same way my BCB headers seal?

But I have the BCB 2 into 1 pipes that I was going to try to use. But since I have a Windsor motor, they don't quite line up right. Guess I might be better off letting the muffler shop bend some pipes for me and returning the BCB pipes.

Shouldn't a muffler shop be able to do the same job with their own parts for less than $220 labor included?

Muffler shops go the easiest and fastest route for them. If you want full custom fitted exhaust you'll pay much more than the $2-300 in parts, probably be closer to $5-800+. A buddy of mine paid north of a grand for a custom 2.5" exhaust! I paid around $300 and a day in the garage...

I made mine myself too with pre bent pieces from summit. I used this style clamp http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-692250/overview/ they come in all sizes depending on what you need you can clamp over slip joint or butt the tubes end to end and clamp them without a slip joint. They are used on newer trucks from the factory. Mine worked out great and dont leak

IME, muffler shops are notorious for kinking pipes, fitting them "good enough", welding hangers to the wrong places, and booger-welding less than halfway around the pipe because they're too lazy to fit-tack-drop-finish-install.

I bought a mandrel bent assortment of pipes from Columbia River Mandrel Bending. http://www.mandrelbends.com/builder-kits.html This worked perfectly and was fairly easy with my fenderwell headers. It only took a 180 and a 45 for me to get from header to muffler. Didn't really need to go with the Ultimate Builder Kit. Bought the hangers from Summit and made the brackets for them.

not anymore. I called around for pricing and I was amazed at what they are charging now. Like someone else mentioned, buy on of the kits and spend a day doing it your self.

How do you intend to shield the body mount from excess heat?
Good point. Hadn't really thought about that. Maybe I'll build a small heat shield if it looks like a problem. I got the high temp BL bushings from WH. Lol

I say you should use 30w ball bearings. They all use muffler bearings these days. ;D
