For those who did this conversion using a 99-01 Explorer engine and went with a manual transmission, how did you get your VSS+ wire down to your transmission/transfer case? I have the Grey/Black wire present at the PCM and at the engine side of C115, but not at the firewall side of C115. I did find in my box of extra wires a Grey/Black wire that has a factory splice with 2 pins on one side and 2 cut wires on the other. Did you pin it through the firewall side of C115 and down to the trans area or did you splice into it in the engine harness and run it down like the auto trans wiring would go?

A little background:

I originally reworked this harness in 2020 with intentions of using the 4R70W and putting it in a different Bronco (which I ended up selling and the new owner didn't want the harness), so now I'm going to put it in my '72 with either a M5OD-R2 or an AX15, so now I have to pull the harness back apart to remove the auto trans wiring and add the VSS.

Thanks for reading this.

On the Bronco I just finished, it had a VSS for the PCM. (It had a AX15)
Garry had eliminated Trans grey connector. Back up lights came from the old Centech harness on the chassis and O2 sensors/VSS connectors were now part of the main harness.
I needed the G/B wire for the signal to the aftermarket speedometer. When I asked the question about where to tap in he said there was a terminated end in the C115. It was easy to run another wire in the portion of the harness that went inside.

I would say you can do what you want since most of the connections for the 4R70W are not needed, that just leaves maybe the two O2 sensors depending how you ran them and the VSS G/B wire and ground.

Did I make any sense with this? Doug

Yeah, that is kinda what I thought. Looks like Garry spliced into the Grey/Black in the main harness then. Not a big deal, since I have to unwrap it anyway to remove all those auto trans wires. I just wanted to do it the "right" way. I will probably go to the junkyard and see if I can get lucky and find the VSS and reverse lights bundled together on something like a manual trans Ranger. I did email Garry a few days ago, but he hasn't responded yet. I'm sure he's busy and will get to me when he can though. Thanks Doug.

Garry called me back today, Mondays is his catch up day, my question wasn't urgent so the wait was fine. But as you can guess he is still a busy guy, but he tries to take Family time on the weekends...

Sounds like you have a plan ;).

Yeah, he followed up with me today. I forgot to post that up here. He said the reason the VSS+ wire is in the C115 is because in the later Explorer the VSS signal comes from the ABS. He suggested to splice into the Grey/Black in the main harness and run it to the VSS at the trans. He also said the reverse lights were a matter of preference, so I'll stick those 2 wires in the loom with the VSS and run it down there that way.

Thanks again, Dave. I really appreciate all the folks on here who share their wealth of knowledge. I know it helps a lot of people on here, and I'm no different. Couldn't do it without all the help. So thanks!
