Explorer Motor and Fuel Pump

For those out there running the explorer serpentine system what fuel pump are you using? I have a carb and do not plan on using efi anytime soon. I was on the Ford Motorsports website and it said you cannot use a mechanical fuel pump with the explorer timing chain cover. Is this true? Is it because it is to thin for the eccentric to be bolted to the cam and not hit the timing chain cover? What are you guys with this system running? Thanks for any help.

I just went outside and looked at the explorer timing chain cover and you are right. I do not know why I did not think of that. Thanks for the help Jeepster. I guess I'll run an electric fuel pump if I use the explorer serpentine system. Do I need a return line if I run an electric fuel pump?

The explorer setup requires the explorer timing chain cover. Older stuff will not interchange. Deleting the room for the fuel pump is part of th package to shorten the motor.

As for an eletric fuel pump on a carb, get a normal carter. They are quiet, run for years, don't need a regulator or return line. Cost about $50

I will second the motion on the Carter. One of the best things I ever did was change to a Carter electric on mine. I would suggest running it off of a relay.
