Explorer rear discs: not working at all! Thoughts???

If they are all rebuilt, I would say 100% chance they are all bad. News one? No.

The cpp mcs were new. Everything else is likely rebuilt including todays test mc. I just don't understand how two mcs from cpp were bad. Bizarro world!

Would be pretty unlikely that 5 MC's would be bad but at least your getting something now and no going all the way to the floor. Your PSI reading is about right for manual brakes.

Not yet. Booster arrived but i haven't.

Guess who's brakes are finally working?
Good news is my brakes work.

Bad news is I had to remove the WH MC and booster and go to manual setup for them to work.

I installed the replacement booster from WH and nothing changed. Still had same crappy pressure and pedal effort.
Matt Miner convinced me to pull it all off and throw on a MC of same bore in the manual configuration. Brakes work great and twice the pressure! Oh, and I actually heard my 35s lock up last night!

I am not sure what is going on with the WH power brake setup, but I've been chasing this gremlin for over a year and it turns out the culprit was the new parts the whole time.

Gonna get in touch with WH and try to work something out in terms of returning this system.

Thanks everyone for helping to create such an exhaustive and informative brake troubleshooting thread. Surely this is one for the books!

I consider myself pretty experienced but this fiasco made me feel like a rookie. Never again will I take it for granted a new part is not the culprit.

Glad I perused this thread. On my 75 trail rig I have all new brakes (drums rear and disks up front) with the manual brakes, I find it very easy to drive. I am running 35" tires like you and I can lock up the brakes on dry pavement with out too much effort. What are your plans now? Or are you satisfied with just having (working) manual brakes?

If and when I make the jump to 37's I was considering a brake booster--- with all your problems it makes me leery!

I am satisfied with manual for now. Gonna test them out on the rocks and see how I feel about it then.

Lots of folks swear that a booster is the best upgrade they have done. I imagine my issue, for whatever reason, is certainly part of the minority.

I am just happy I don't have to worry about coasting into the person in front of me anymore.
