Got a question on the water pump pulleys of the explorer and the mountaineer. I found a mountaineer that had both side brackets and had the all the parts necessary for the swap. the timing case, water pump and harmonic balancer were gone so I purchased these items from Autozone for the 1999 5.0l mercury. I am having trouble finding the correct water pump pulley for the mountaineer and am wondering if the pumps and pulleys are the same for both the mountaineer and the Explorer. The pulleys from the parts houses are from an early 302 and mercury say's it is no longer available.

I was never able to find an aftermarket water pump pulley and I just gave my spare away to another member.
You need to go back and hunt in the junk yards.

i've not heard of an aftermarket pulley. it is the same between 5.0 mountaineer and explorer. I doubt it is common to the v6.

Explorer and Mountaineer V8 pulleys are the same. There have been a few discussions on this board about the difficulty finding a replacement. No new ones from Ford and no aftermarket support. Used is your only choice.
