Explorer throttle body to mustang EGR

Back working on my 66 Restomod project. Removed the 90 degree elbow from TB and plenum. I’m running a stock explorer TB. Can I run a 87-93 mustang 70mm EGR or should I source out something smaller?

Are you planning to retain EGR?
If so it only works on a 96 Explorer upper and lower plenums since this was the only year Exhaust gases were internally supplied.

If you are using it as just a spacer, then 67-70mm will work.

I used a 70mm, with 96 Explorer gaskets, minor clearancing needs to be done... on the Upper plenum to the spacer area. I have retained EGR.

96 coolant tubes have a cross over hose between them that can be removed to supply the coolant loop to the EGR.

I have a rebuilt 96 that is wired for EGR. Do you have any photos of the clearancing that is needed? I’ve looked quite a bit and it seems the mustang 67mm egr is hard to find. Are you using the Explorer throttle cable?

I bought an older used BBK, Edelbrock made, 70mm TB and Egr spacer. The 70mm TB was.... poorly made. The the throttle shaft return spring was too strong and it made it almost impossible gently accelerate from a dead stop. So I modified the Explorer 65mm TB to work by changing the swing arm on the TB to a mustang one. My plan was to use a Mustang accelerator cable and cable bracket that bolts to the EGR spacer, which worked fine.
What you are doing is basically Port matching, you need to pick up some new 96 Explorer EGR and TB gaskets and do some dry fit testing.
I also used the Mustang EGR valve... because it is how the EGR position sensor is placed... It can be rotated, 3 holes and studs on the valve itself. (don't lose the o-ring seal) But it wasn't enough with how much harness I had. The valves do the same thing, same plug, just minor mounting differences. Mustang EGR is on the left, Explorer on the right

In between the front four runners and the back four runners on the upper manifold there will either be a smaller hole or a gap, the gap means the intake does not have the EGR passage, the hole is the EGR passage. Ford switched to external EGR before they ran out of internal EGR uppers.

Thanks for the info. Mine is definitely internal EGR.
