Extended radius arm question

I'm finishing up installing my new James duff radius arms and my original shock towers look off. I have a 3"inch old lift from who knows where (probably like 25 years old)... I lined up the coil towers the closest I could and it just doesn't look right. Could it be that this is normal and the arms are meant for after market shock hoops or should I screw out the heim joints on the arms till the towers line up (Moving the axle forward)?

Does look a little off. You would have to screw in the heims to suck the axel back, screwing them out would extend the axel further forward. You had to put a new rear mount on the frame for the arm correct? It may not have been installed far enough back causing the arm to push the axel forward?

You can run it like that with no major issues. But those arms are meant to be used with much longer shocks, so if you used the Duff shock hoop, the shocks would be better aligned. Running those shocks you have will be too short, and your shocks will be limiting your suspension down travel. (Like limiting straps).

Thanks guys. Price if I pulled it back further the shock towers would be even more off. The coils line up ok. I guess I need to save for better shock towers now. My long tube headers it too so If anyone is thinking about installing these and have WH long tube headers like me they wont work :(

I might be wrong, but it looks to me like the angle of the lower coil cup is causing the lower end of the spring to bulge forward. If it was at a flatter angle it wouldn't bend the spring at the bottom. I think I saw "Migs" had made some lower coil cups that would correct this issue. Like I said , just my take on the problem. Good luck!

When you replace the long arms and put the new coils cup in did you replace your C bushing ? I just completed mine a while back and angle of new arm and cups you need to put either a normal or 4 degree bushing in.

It does look like its cocked forward a bit. I have 4 degree c cup bushings. I'll have to research what migs did, thanks

Your springs will probable look a lot better when you put wheels on and then some weight.
Looks like the springs are hanging in the air (right?). Good luck.

^^ Agree, when you put the weight back on the axle all f that will move forward and should be perfectly normal. I would try that first.

True!! I do have the springs stretched out and the frame it's supported. Sometimes I over think things lol... I still have to deal with the issue of my headers not fitting though. If it flexes much at all my long tube headers will hit. I swear every time I upgrade the Bronco it cost me twice as much because I end up having to"Fix" or "Upgrade" some thing else
