I just swapped in an Explorer motor and need to run an enxternal fuel pump now. I am running the 2 barrel with a regulator, so it does not have to be some exotic high speed, super flow pump. Just a durable economic in line pump that is easy to replace from a parts store in the event of failure on the trail. Thanks.

Carter 4070. Not the cheapest but a good quality, long lasting pump.

BTW, how did the alt wiring go?

X2 carter pump availible at most stores. I ran my first one for 25+ years it was still working when I replaced it with another just because it was 25+ years old.

Worked on carb set up today and cleaned up part of the garage. Hope to tackle the 4g tomorrow--got your instructions printed out and ready to go. Thanks for the email!

I bought one a couple of months ago to replace a failed diaphragm pump. It works, but its very loud especially for the first few minutes after initial startup. Even then, I can still hear it over the idle of the motor.:(

I may take it back to the shop I bought it from to let them listen to it.

Get a louder exhuast;D Or a better stereo. Yes you can hear them but thats how you know its working. Of course where you mount it may also factor into how loud it is. Mines on the frame rail near the rear tank I can hear it but its not that loud to me but then again I'm used to it. I've heard some of the other brand pumps that were louder.

Hey gents, first post here...love the site! don't want to thread jack but here is my deal, pickup a 76 bronc w, an 85 5.0 HO and has no mech or diaphram pump. Do I need an external pump? How about using the tank switch... or do I have to change tanks w/the manual under seat?
Prev. owner had WH 20 gal and 12 gal aux installed about 10 yrs ago

Sorry for the jack, need help

Welcome
a 85 engine should still be able to accept a mechanical pump. But I like electric pumps a little better. Its up to you want you want to run.
As for changing what tank your using the manual switch under the seat is the one that switches tanks the dash switch only switches the gauges.

after many years of buying the cheapo pumps I switched to Carter P4070 and I found it to be supreme above any other for the carb'd engines.
The noise level for carter is much lower than other brands because it is a rotory pump instead of vibrating diaphram.
