f150 Front Drive Shaft

So I have a 1971 with the D20 transfer case. I picked up a 1976 dana 44 to swap in as I do a 2.5" lift. My rig didn't come with a drive shaft(was missing). My friend has offered me one of his multiple extra shafts from his dent side f150 collection.

Any reason it flat out won't work? I realize it may need to be shortened, which is not a big deal, I can do that as I rebuild it.

Thanks,
-Cody

The F150 shaft will be a 1310 single-cardan design on both ends, so it won't bolt up to your D20, assuming you're still set up to run a double-cardan shaft there. I think some guys pull the Explorer front shafts for cores to retube or cut down, as those are double-cardan at the t-case...I'm sure there are others as well. The 78-79 big Broncos used double-cardan, but I don't recall if they were 1310 or 1330 u-joints.

Actually some full-size trucks did get the double-cardan front shaft. Mine is an F350, so not the same, but the front is a double and the rear is a single. Most of the F150's I've crawled around under had them as well I thought. Or maybe it was just the Broncos? Hmm, now you've got me thinking...
But either way your '70 might have the older Borg-Warner style yoke and you'd have to change that out to a Dana-Spicer type anyway: https://www.wildhorses4x4.com/product/Transfer_Case_Yoke/Bronco_Dana20_Transfer_Case

But aside from that, yes if you have all that matching, and the F150 is a DC/CV, you should be able to cut it down (or have it cut down) no problem.

Thanks for the replies. I just noticed I typo's the year as a '70, it's a '71. I will get under it and confirm the yoke type tho. Seems like it will work if any he has are the DC/CV.

Thanks again.
