After several years of work the bronco is finally on the road (and off road). After several years of trying to make it to the Silver Lake sand dunes on on the shore of Lake Michigan I finally made it. I have been camping there since 1983. First with my parents and for the past 25 years with my children. I have only missed this trip three times in all those years. This year I would be camping with my daughters. My youngest (now 17) came up with me last Saturday. My other daughter joined us on Wednesday after she got out of work.
The bronco worked better than I had imagined. The 351 had so much torque and power compared to the old 4.0L in my 95 jeep YJ. I was nervous about taking the bronco out after such a short time to drive it and work out bugs. The bronco made it back in one piece and now the only problem is I don't want to quit driving it.;D Here are some pics of the weekend. I hope you enjoy them.
Bronco loaded up and ready to go.
Rented a camper for the week. Was nice and comfortable for the week. Temps were between 52 at night and up to the upper 70's to lower 80's during the day.
Went to check out the hydro electric plant just north of the dunes (could not wheel on Saturday due to no voucher slip). This is my daughter at the overlook. The barrier net is 2 miles long and keeps fish from being sucked into the power plant.
Me and Emily.
Went to West Michigan Dragway on Saturday night. Great place to watch the sand drags and only about 10 minutes from the camp. I saw this guy cruising around.
Here are a couple pics of the bronco.
Most of these pictures were taken well above the tree tops. Some beautiful views.
Kids wanted to go horseback riding so horseback riding it was.
Not really my cup of tea. I had on my classic broncos hat and shirt. They probably thought I liked old horses. ;D
Headed over to the dunes with the girls to watch the sunset on Lake Michigan.
Some pics of some bronco brothers.
This bronco hauls ass across the dunes. Very nice rig.
Cars lined up along Lake Michigan. Awesome to pack a lunch and head to the lake. Set up a picnic area and watch the cool cars come by and go for a swim.
I have a brother in a wheel chair. He is going through some rough times. I met this gentleman out by the lake. He was with his wife and children enjoying the sun. He allowed me to take a quick picture to cheer my brother up. Sometimes you have to take a minute to give thanks for all our blessings and remember all God has given us.
Took the girls back up to Ludington to let them do some shopping. Went to check out some ships. This one is no longer used but a ship like it, The Badger, is the last coal powered steam ship in the united states. It ferries people from Ludington to Wisconsin.
Best fried fish ever. You go in and pick the raw fish from behind the counter, they put some batter on the fish and fry it right away. I had to park down the road to get in and the line was out the door. If you like fish you have to stop. It is on Lakeshore drive just south of Ludington.
Well that was the trip. I will hopefully post a video of a cruise up and around the dunes tomorrow.
