I dedided to make my own thread on Flexplates. I hate automatic transmissions, but I need to help a Bronco friend. So please tell me if I got this right:

There are 4 critical features for a small block Ford flexplate. Is the following correct for STOCK configurations? In no particular order:

1. Number of teeth. (157 vs 164) OD=13.29 inch vs 14.25 inch
2. Balance weight. (28 vs 50)
3. Torque Converter bolt pattern. (10.5 vs 11.5) 11.5 measures 11.4375 or 11-7/16 but is called 11.5 also sometimes called 11-3/8.
4. Torque Converter depth. (AOD=C4=FMX) and (C6=E4OD)

This means that there are 16 flexplates possible for the small block ford.
Since you can't have a big pattern 157 tooth, so that takes away 4 (not viable) and leaves 12 possible.
Since the C6 was never used with the small converter, (nope) that takes away 4 more, leaving 8.
The AOD came out in 79, before the 50oz switch in 82. So no 10.5 converters (never made) in 50oz. That takes away 2 leaving 6 factory flex plates.

1. 157 tooth, 28 oz, 10.5, C4 offset = 1967 Ford Mustang. (C3AZ-6375-L, ATP Z126, FRA-203)
2. 157 tooth, 28 oz, 10.5, C6 offset = nope
3. 157 tooth, 28 oz, 11.5, C4 offset = not viable.
4. 157 tooth, 28 oz, 11.5, C6 offset = not viable
5. 157 tooth, 50 ox, 10.5, C4 offset = never made
6. 157 tooth, 50 oz, 10.5, C6 offset = nope
7. 157 tooth, 50 oz, 11.5, C4 offset = not viable
8. 157 tooth, 50 oz, 11.5, C6 offset = not viable

9. 164 tooth, 28 oz, 10.5, C4 = 1974-77 Bronco 302 with Thermactor. (help with PN please!)
10. 164 tooth, 28 oz, 10.5, C6 offset = nope
11. 164 tooth, 28 oz, 11.5, C4 offset = 1976 F100 302, and some Bronco's 74-77 (C5AZ-6375-T, E0AZ-6375-A, ATP Z105, FRA-205)
12. 164 tooth, 28 oz, 11.5, C6 offset = 1987 F250 351W (D1ZZ-6375-A, ATP Z110, FRA-202)
13. 164 tooth, 50 ox, 10.5, C4 offset = never made.
14. 164 tooth, 50 oz, 10.5, C6 offset = nope.
15. 164 tooth, 50 oz, 11.5, C4 offset = 1987 Mustang 5.0, Explorer, etc. (E2AZ-6375-A, ATP Z157, FRA-214)
16. 164 tooth, 50 oz, 11.5, C6 offset = 1987 F250 5.0 with E4OD (E1TZ-6375-C, ATP Z193, FRA-231)

The rare combination is the 164 tooth, 28 oz, 10.5 and C4 depth. (74-77 Bronco sometimes) I was told that this one was not reproduced, and MOST people just install an 11.5 torque converter.

69-74 Ford, FRA-220, D1ZZ-6375-C ???

Stay tuned...

1974-77 Bronco 164T Flexplate with small (10.5) converter. Pic courtesy of Viperwolf.
This thing uses a special converter with an extended snout. So it might actually be C6 offset. I've got to do some research.
