ford axle vs. chevy axle

I have a 1975 bronco with a dana 44 and I recently broke my front drivers side inner axle(the short one). My friend has a spare axle that came out of a 1979 chevy blazer with a dana 44, that he is willing to give me. I have heard that they are same. My questiong, is this an okay swap are they interchangable.

ToddZ did a nice job with that.

However he has some wrong information.
The Dana 44 was ran until 1979 in the 1/2 tons and 1980 in the 3/4 ton.
The 10 Bolt started in 1977, so there is overlap
The axle shaft number is the same for 73-80, and same length.
It's not a exact match, but I'm sure a couple more will pipe in.
Here is my chart.

FWIW, I have a complete short side axle in mine from either a 78 or a 79 Bronco. I've heard that some people need to grind a little from the end to make it fit but mine slid right in.
