Found another engine possibility...

I found a local guy with a complete (minus alt and PS pump) 5.0 engine/harness/ecu out of a 1990 ford truck. Supposedly with a rebuild about 20K miles ago. The pan and intake/heads are off the shortblock so it will be easy to inspect to confirm that assertion. The price seems about right too.

I know the truck 5.8's are too tall for bronco engine compartments, what about the 5.0's though? Will I need to track down a different intake if I buy this engine?

Except for a very few, trucks used a speed density system. And I believe all of the SD ones used the tall intake.

I am sure you can find regular 5.0 intakes for the 5.0, if you need them. I have an extra set that could be shipped....if you couldnt find a set locally.

It's really not about finding the intake. But I'd rather avoid paying for a part, then scrapping it for a nearly identical part when I could just buy an engine that has what I need.

The low mileage makes it awfully tempting to do just that though.

Keep you eyes open, car intakes can be found for as little as $50

I've actually seen them go for as little as 1$ on ebay before..... But I know that as soon as I need one, all the deals will disappear (don't they always?), and I'll end up paying more than I want to for one.

Anyway, it's out of a 1990 bronco, and they guy selling it says he's sure it'll fit. He claims to have put a 5.8 in his '75 and not had any clearance issues. I don't want to claim BS without seeing it, but that doesn't jibe with what I've been told to expect...

There were a very few Broncos with the "Lightning" engine. Wouldn't that be nice to find.
The two that I've seen were the ones with the grille and bumpers painted the body color.

There are a bunch of broncos around town, and more than a few color matched ones (I always made fun of them... they look LAME)... So I'll have to check and see.
