Not valve keepers, no groove inside. Maybe the top of a lifter?
Any chance of getting something to reference a size? Can't tell how big they are.

Looks like parts of the valve stem casting from the head. Check under your valve stem seals. Sometimes when bronze guides get installed the bored out casting at the top is very thin and cracks off. Just my guess.

I think Bax is right. It looks like cast iron from the original cast in valve guide. When bored out to install a repair guide that leaves the guide standing up from the spring seat very thin. They usually break off when installing the repair guide. The pieces would be about 1/16 of an inch thick. Repair guides can be either cast, or bronze. Knowing what engine is and the type of material might help.

Sorry...you're working with someone that has zero engine knowledge.

I assume this engine is a 289 or 302? What year? My guess is early, pre 1969 with adjustable rockers. Can you measure the ID, OD and length of those pieces? If they were pieces of valve retainers, witch I don't think they are, they would be hardened steel and would be tapered.

The later 302's had a hardened steel cup that went on top of the valve stems, between the valve stem and rocker. But, it does not look like that it what it is.

Sorry, can't measure. Don't have the pieces here.

I'm going with Bax's guess...looks like pieces of the guide castings.
