Frame Measurement Allowance

'68 Bronco - I was in an accident a few weeks ago and I am taking the truck apart to rebuild. Why go half way when you can go waaaayyy past the project scope??!?!

Damage is in front left corner and I have sheetmetal off and I am checking frame. Vertically down each frame rail the dimension is with 1/16-1/8 until the front left corner after the engine cross member. Steering box forward section - by the time I get to the oval gage hole it is dipping down 1/2". Not surprising that is where the impact drove the bumper down. The firewall to rad support is less than 1/8" variation front to back and diagonally.

I used a plumb bob and dropped the gage hole under the cab near the t-case onto the shop floor. Then I did the same for the gage hole near the bumper mount. I measured this on a diagnonal to see if the frame was still square. This dimension varies 5/16" from one side to the other. This seems like a lot. It could also mean the front right corner is bent in and is only off the last section not the whole frame.

I also check my door width and they are within 1/8". Does anyone have any datum points and dimensions I could reference? I'll have a shop pull it but I want to know what it is before so I can check it after they are done.

Thanks!

I used a laser level across the cargo bed sections of the rails when I made this, but read the caption before clicking to zoom and then clicking to the original which you can save locally.

It's not an attachment - it's a link to a free image hosting site where, like any site, you can save the images to your local storage (phone, HDD, thumbdrive, cloud, etc.). Here's the raw image (unless CB resizes it), but that page has useful information & other relevant links.
