Working on trying to figure out why a front fender side marker on my 74 is not working .On the two wire ( male and female) connector are both the female and male terminals suppose to be hot using a test light. I only have one of the 2 wires in the socket for the push in bulb coming up hot .

No. One is hot, one is a ground.
Are the wires/connector original, or new replacements?
I don’t remember off the top of my head for sure, but I think Brown is the color of the 12V signal coming from the headlight switch?
The other could be black or something else. But follow them along and see where they terminate.
If you find the ground connection to the body, loosen it up, clean it up, tighten it up.

But inspect the socket behind the lens as well. It’s a twist and pull socket if you haven’t had it out already. Look at the contacts and see if they’re corroded or broken. Repair or replace if necessary.

And you did check the bulb. Correct?

Actually these are just a straight push in bulb, not a twist in. I tried several used bulbs but got some new ones coming. Before I push the bulb in I only have power to one so then I assume the other is a ground…Original OEM wiring.

so if your checking for power at the connector were the main harness plugs into the light wiring everthing connected and you have power on both wires that tells me you have power to bulb , bulb has a good filament{maybe} and power on ground side ,,that would sujest the ground isnt ther either broken wire corroded connection ,,, ,,, so there is the oe way of wiring power to marker and ground at inner fenders,, OR the modified way power to marker,, ground moved to the and spliced in on the turn signal circuit of the grill mounted turn/park light ,, this will create with headlights off , the turn signal will alternate illumination between marker and grill turn signal .. with headlights on both marker and turn will flash a same time,, ....so if wired the modified way if the turn signal filament of the grill bulb is broken burnt the marker will not illuminate as well,,

Yep. I’m at the socket itself. Not the bulb.

Correct. Unlike the running lights and tail lamps, there’s only one filament. So only needs power and ground. Not two powers and grounding through the case. Which is all plastic anyway.
