I am looking for any info on doing a front window frame replacement and install. I have searched the forums, but haven't found a lot of info. I know that I will have to drill out all of the spot welds that are holding the frame in place, but after I get it off, what is the best way to mount the new frame? Am I correct in that the new frame/hinge can be screwed/bolted in place vs having to spot weld it back in place? Does anyone have any directions on how they attached their new front window frame ?

Hi Mark,

I'm very interested in your thread. I'll be doing the same thing if I keep our '71.

When you do yours, it would be great if you would post some pics.

Thanks

Jeff

I used a MIG to spot weld mine back in place. The PO had drilled the spot welds out between the frame and the hinge. Since the hinge was in good shape, already in place and had holes drilled, it was pretty easy. I took my time and aligned everything up, clamped it in place and welded it back together. I only took a couple pics during the process, but there are a few on page 4 of my build thread.

I installed mine using 3M body panel adhesive and stainless steel button head screws. The panel adhesive does a good job of adhering the hinge and keeps moisture out. I then used a small circular cutter to cut out the gasket at each screw so that the screws would not cause the hinge to be pushed up and separated to allow moisture to enter along the hinge. Fit everything up using the screws and then apply the panel adhesive on final assembly. It really is pretty easy and you can prevent further rust problems by sealing it up properly.jlh

Are you talking about the windshield frame or a frame on the door? sounds a little confusing to me??

If it were me I would make sure your doors are aligned to your fender and tub and then adjust the location of the windshield frame to fit your door frames. Ford has alot of variences when they made the Bronco and a little extra time fitting your windshield location to where your doors actually are can make a big difference on your door seals whistling as you go down the highway. Ford when they welded in my window frame moved the drivers side too far forward almost 3/16 of an inch. The passengers side was really good but the drivers side sucked and the wind noise was terrible for it.
