I placed my fuel filter is right before the pump in the engine compartment, that way its easy access and easy viewing.

Mine is between the pump and the carb, never had any problems with it there and it's very easy access. I could see how it might be beneificial to have it before the pump though. I believe the fuel line is 5/16 (least that's what it is in my 75).

Got mine after the pump, sits right above the right side valve cover on a bracket I made. Also have a canister style filter on the fuel lines from both tanks, before the pump to keep trash outta the pump. Might be overkill, but they're cheap insurance. You can kinda see the clear filter on mine in the photo gallery on page 53, 1 up from the bottom I think.

I have two fuel filters, one before the pump and one after. Both are clear. I'll try to take some pics this weekend to show placement.

A clear filter before the pump is a cheap fix until I can get an aftermarket tank.
