Full width d44 questions

So i got a dana 44 today out of a 1972 f 100 and the wedges are weld on and are 36 inches apart just like my dana 30. My question is do the wedges need to be cut and rewelded in another spot seems like every thing will be center to me please correct me if i am wrong.
