Gas Pedal Differences between V8 and 6cyl?

I just installed a gas pedal assembly I had laying around, I don't know if it came out of a V8 or 6cyl. I purchased the stock linkage kit from Toms, but the rod that goes from the pedal to the bell crank does NOT fit over the ball stud on the gas pedal. It makes me wonder if gas pedals had different size balls depending on V8 or 6cyl application? Or maybe I just got a bad rod from Toms?

I know the I6 ran a cable, so I see it could be different.
