Bigmuddy your post had me search the Washington state RCW's and this is what I found for here -

RCW 46.37.380
Horns, warning devices, and theft alarms
"Every motor vehicle when operated upon a highway shall be equipped with a horn in good working order and capable of emitting sound audible under normal conditions from a distance of not less than two hundred feet, but no horn or other warning device may emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound or a whistle"

Pretty vague if you ask me. Seems like one of those things that would depend on the Police Officers mood!

I agree. Most of the truckers that I know, do not broadcast to anyone outside their own circle that have the train horn and they typically limit when they use it.

I completely agree this thing has to be as legal as Micheal Jackson in a room with an 8 year old I just like it for the opportunity to use it in an extreme situation if needed and the fact that the horn and compressor do not equal up to the cost of an arb upgraded 24v compressor.

I got a fix it ticket for no horn on my hard tail when I was a bit younger. I went out and bought a squeeze bulb horn and clamped it to my frame. When I went to get it signed off the cop started to give me a hard time so I asked him if he thought he could hear it from 200 feet. He signed off the ticket and warned me he better see it mounted if he ever saw me on the road. Tossed it in their can on the way out of the lot. Loud pipes save lives...;D

PS, now I have a street glide with air horns. I would like to see this deal go through. I have to agree with keeping the stock horn for normal use and using the train for emergencies. It would be nice haviing one more source for airing up too.
