OK, I have put a hydro boost setup on the Bronco, during a total rebuild. The power steering is now giving me fits, every time I try to turn to the left, no power steering. If I hit the brakes while turning the wheel to the left it jerks it right (more like a quick jar), then its over. However, it works just fine turning to the right. I just bought a new pump, have switched the lines from the hydro boost countless times. What is going on, please help, last thing before it is driveable.......!

Did you have any symptoms before you installed the hydro-boost? Any chance you got debris into the box when you plumbed it together? Sounds like womething with the box if you have normal power assist when you turn right. Maybe you will get lucky and Bwoncohowie will chime in. He rebuilt his box last year and probably has a good understanding of the internals. Have you tried to re-bleed everything on jackstands. Maybe you have an air bubble. Theses systems do take while to burp all of the air.

Good luck, Joe

that is deffantly somthing wrong with the box. I know if a rack and pinon setup does this the only way to fix it is to get a new rack. But that might not be the case with a box style set up.
It also sounds like you have air in the box on the "left turn" side. I say this because if you put pressure to the fluid in the box (right side) it will compress the air and jerk the wheel.
Try bleeding and make sure there is no air what so ever. If that doesn't work you'll probaly need a rebuild.

WHOA son sounds like a set of problems not just one!!! Dont do anything rash just yet. Lets deal with the two issues one at a time.
THE HYDROBOOST PROBLEM.
I assume That you have returned the Hboost to the proper configuration. From the pump to the single pressure port on one side of the hydroboost. The other side has two ports one is low pressure return to the pump the other is High Pressure to the power steering box. out of the box is the other low pressure return to the pump. Ensure this is the way it is done and you have a dual return pump. We DO NOT want to deal with the residual pressure issue with a T install. After you have this plumbed ensure that the pump is full and has a load of fresh fluid in it. If your bored and want something to do, take the pump apart and clean it. I will bet your tax refund that it is filthy inside the pump. The seal kit is less than 15 bucks CDN. Now we have a clean pressure system..
THE STEERING PROBLEM.
Definitely in the box, There is other possibilities but not likely (expensive too!!). We have to get some clean fluid through that box and pump a couple of litres of fluid through it. Check your hoses!! especially the HP line. If you got a pinhole leak you have a problem like this. Now connect all lines to the pressure system and disconnect the LP line of the PS box and put it into a bucket for now. Run the truck through the bleed sequence listed in your manual but instead of maintaining your system pump the fluid into the bucket.

Do not touch your brakes!! another issue we will deal with shortly.
Do not rev the engine, very low idle RPM for this.
Turn the steering wheel slowly and gently when doing this bleed off.
Ensure the pump does not go dry. Have a buddy or someone else keep it full while you keep an eye on things. Put at least 2 quarts through the system.
Turn off the engine and reconnect the LP line to the pump.
Bleed the system as per manual. This should fix the steering problem but we still have the Hboost to deal with.
Bleed the Hboost system as per instructions. If you do not have these email me or go to hydrotech site and get them. This is another case where you are going to push fluid through the system and bleed it off into that bucket you kept from the steering issue. About a quart pumped through should fix this one. Bleed as per directions.

This should fix you right up

OK, so what I have been told so far is that this is prob. a bleeding issue? I have had this happen once before with the turning just to the right with my 72', but that was 10 years ago,,, but I know I did nothing to the PS box. This box was the one that was being used on the Bronco before it was torn down and was working fine. I will try the bleeding thing, because I know that I hit the brakes trying to get them to work. I do have a hydro boost can on the pump that I just bought, and I did return the lines to normal, so I will try the bleeding sequence and let you know how it works....Thanks for the info...

Double check your pressure lines with the low pressure lines. When I installed my new box the instructions didn't say which port is which and I got them switched. This made my box do all sorts of weird things including the syptoms you described.

Good luck this is a fun one.

Did you get the thing to work???
Let me know will you?
If the bleed off does not work there is some other things we can do that cost nothing that could fix it.
Ran into this myself and found the amount of Cr*p in the pump was amazing. The system is not very clean. Mine was a new pump and a system for 4 months and the crap that collected was like I said amazing

Unfortunately I have not had time to try the bleed off, I am in medical school, and have three tests this week. I will be able to try and do it this weekend however. But Walker, I will keep you informed on how this is turning out...Brewbro, don't laugh, but I may have done the same thing,,,,I will not be able to check until this weekend though..... I am using the F-150 box, is it the small line nut or big line nut that is high pressure? It could be something this simple....hopefully/// I have the large line nut as the low pressure side, so please let me know if this is wrong...
