Goodyear MT/R vs BFG KM2

We use a lot of the BFG's at work, the MT's are frankly a terrible tire, they wear quickly, chunk out tread blocks, and they are flat out horrible in mud and snow. Our trucks come with them and on my new truck they were completely worn out at 11,000 miles.

I've had MTR's on my Bronco for the last 6 years, they are a great tire. I'd also look at Toyo MT's and Goodyear Duratrac's. I've had Duratrac's on my Dodge truck since I've owned it, they generally last around 35,000 miles which is forever for a MT tire, they are awesome in snow and ice, and pretty good in mud. I'm leaning heavily toward them for my new Bronco tires.

I've got 6K on my Goodyear MTRs in 2 years and they don't show any wear yet. I ran Toyo MT's before that for several years and they are the absolute WORST tire in compact snow or ice that I've had in the 40 yrs I've been driving/wheeling my Bronco on snow and ice every winter. I live where we have snow on the roads/hills from Nov-March so it's a valid statement. Toyos also are the second worst rolling tire 37x14.5x15 behind the variety of Super Swamper models I've owned. Hope this helps.

I run the Km2's. I don't have any experience with the MT'R's.

I have run Goodyear before on other cars and a motorhome and have been extremely happy.

The KM2's always have worked good for me, so why change, right? They also got me 1400 miles racing in Baja this year - without 1 flat!

I run the KM2 but never have run the Goodyears so I can't compare.

But with my Bronco the KM2 are extremely quiet, round and took very little weight to balance on my steel rims.

I did loose one to a sharp rock through the sidewall. I bought them through 4 Wheel parts with the extra warranty. They priced matched the best price I could find and they were local. They replaced the failed tire with no hassle but I did have to pay for the remount.

Would I buy them again Yes, Would I try the Goodyears no.

Been a BFG fan for over 30 years so why try now. I don't wear off a set of tires on my Bronco they get replaced by age or trail damage. I loved my old BFG MT, the KM that replaced them were not as good but the KM2 is a much better tire and will see in 10 years if they hold up as well as my old MT did. I've had the KM2 for almost 3 years now.

I have gotten more miles out of BFG A/T's than any other tire in 31 years of driving.
I got 69,000 miles out of some 35x12.50 BFG A/T's. I even kept one just to show people.
Incredibly versatile tire. Excellent in the rain. I have yet to run a better all around tire.

I love the M/T's too but for a mud tire I like the Mickey Thompson MTZ's a little more. They also wear like iron, especially so for a mud tire.

Lots of choices out there. Good time in "4x4 tire history" to be looking for tires.
There are a lot of great off road tires out there. In today's market you can barely go wrong.
They are all good and some are much better than they were just 10 years ago.

I was low on funds and a buddy loaned me his rims and tires for a while. They were KM2s.
I liked them. So I bought some when I got the funds.

I had one blow out sitting in the driveway. I don't blame the tire, this is Yuma and the sun is horribly damaging. Discount tire swapped it out, no questions asked.

Morning,

MTRs on our Bronco. In general I really like the tires. The only complaint is that the sidewalls are pretty stiff on soft surfaces like sand; but, that can be an advantage on other terrain.

Heard a lot of good things about the BFGs, too.

I had BFG Mud Terrains on both my Early Broncos until I sold them in 2006 and they were great. Had 30-40K on them and probably would have gone to 60K. Great off road. Didn't use in snow though. Would see some uneven outer tread wear if I didn't rotate them often, but none if rotated often.

I also had Goodyear MTR's on my 2006 Rubicon and they were great until I sold it with 31K miles on them, probably would have gone to 50K.

I have BFG KM Mud Terrains on my 2012 Rubicon, 31K miles, even wear and will probably go to 50K.

Both good tires, key is frequent rotation. Never had a flat or trail failure on any of them.
