H block for brakes

Dose it matter which side of the h block is used for the front or back brakes. one side has a larger fitting than the other. Im assuming it doesnt matter as long as the front line from the master cylinder goes to the front brakes. just want to make sure. Im bending up some new lines.

Doesn't matter...it's just a distribution block.

If you have a disc brake master, it'll be the rear line from the large pot that goes to the front .

The block itself has different sized ports. Bigger ports for front or it doesn't matter? Like apogee stated I know it's a distribution block just confused me a little with the different size ports

Back up...I may have spoken too quickly without maybe fully reading between the lines of the orignal question. The H-block is just that, a distribution block, so it doesn't inherently matter which side goes where. That said, what does matter is that you properly connect the front brakes to the proper MC outlet for the front brakes, which as noted can vary depending on the MC. Some MC's are front outlet port to front brakes depending on the year/make/model, others are the opposite. As was indicated by RT, if the MC has a large and small reservoir, the large is always for the front brakes.

And as far as I know, most Fords, and all EB's used the rear reservoir of the master for the front brakes.
Someone else may know differently, but I've never seen an EB that didn't run the front brake lines out of the rear ports of the master.

Judging by an image I just looked at of my engine compartment (without going out in the dark to verify ;D ) the front brake line runs from the rear of the master, down to the front inside port of the H-block, and then from the rear inside port with a short steel line to the front brake hose mounted to the frame rail.

Thanks Paul, thats the info I needed. Thats the only way that looked right but wanted to be certain

I think FS Broncos also had the front brakes using the rear of the MC, when the MC was cast iron with integral reservoirs and the rear reservoir was larger ('80-86). But when they went to an Aluminum MC with plastic combined reservoir in '87, the front of the MC was certainly used for the front brakes.

This is an '80-86 proportioning valve:



If yours is NOTHING but a frame mounting point for brake lines that pass straight through, then it doesn't matter which pair are front & which are rear.

If it has a bias warning switch to indicate a leak or excessive wear in one axle, then it PROBABLY doesn't matter.

If it has a proportioning valve to deliver a bias, then it MATTERS.
