Handbrake Location Ideas

Looking to finally connect the the emergency brake lines back up and wanted to go the handbrake route. I was thinking possibly on the left side of the driver seat since I may down the road get a center console put in. Has anyone successfully mounted one there? The cable alignment would be an issue I’d reckon, but it would be outta the way and useable to jimmy on the trails.. Thanks!

I don't know if I would put one there. If its a lever type hand brake, you would be climbing over it to get out of your Bronco if it was set. Did you originally have the foot operated emergency brake on your rig?

I thought about that, but the seat sits pretty high up and have to climb up into them a little bit already. I was looking at a smaller hand brake so it wouldn’t go up past the seat. I have the original foot pedal, but never reinstalled it. I also had the kick panel replaced so I’d have to drill and tack weld mounting bolts for the foot pedal. I figured handbrake would be the way to go since I also have a roll cage in the way.

i dont think that the foot pedal mounts to the kick panel. it bolts to the firewall and dash unless your rig has had mods made along the way.

Doesn't attach to the kick panel. Two bolts through the firewall and one under the dash.

Ha! Lame of me as I never actually pulled the brake pedal out of the extra parts bin that came with the rig.... 12 years ago.... IIRC the original kick panel had a few mounting nuts and when the body shop replaced it, they were no more so I always assumed they were for the pedal...

Well thanks y’all for enlightening me on where the foot brake mounts... I can’t believe I’ve never put two and two together... I’ve done everything else on this rig... lol. Now it’s all hooked up and adjusted. Surprised the lines still work flawlessly after over a decade of sitting. Cheers!

Ron Jones what did your hand brake come from.
...................
..... Also back when I 1st joined there was a lot of hand brakes being put in ..
Dodge Colts WERE POPULAR But you couldn't find one of those today for SQUAT..
But Jeep ZJ or Cherokees also seemed to be a good choice & they'd be easy to find .

I don’t have any photos on my phone at the moment. But I was able to mount a TJ handbrake just to the right of my seat and have it hook up to the stock cables. And I hooked up the “brake” dash light up to the handbrake so it goes on when the brake is engaged. It was pretty easy and cheap to install. I’ll take some photos if anyone is interested.

The closer you get it to the seat, the better the cables line up.
I think it would even work with a center console.
Needs a boot though, just haven’t figured one out yet.

You’re right. It’s a 91-96 XJ hand lever.

Mine's set up like Hinmaton's only I used a Lokar kit. I was was going to pilfer a ebrake out of a Ford Aerostar, (looks very simliar to Hinmaton's). As to location,,,I'm not a big console fan and this type E brake set up feels good and handy.
