Does anyone make a hand held CB radio? I understand you guys use them on trail rides. I am going to OCBR and want to stay in touch since it will be my first trail ride. I know I will need you guys to keep me straight, but I do not want to put on an antenna and mount a CB radio for once or twice a year.

I have a cobra handheld that works pretty good. I would recommend you get a larger external antenna for it. the range on the little whip antennas is not very good.

you could buy one and hoseclamp to your rollbar and get a magnetic mounted antenna which would help keep your hand free and easy access to the mike and you wouldnt loose it if you wheel like astark is starting to (ha ha). go look at pawn shops you might find a bargain.

I've got a hand-held CB. Bought it at a local electronics store (Fry's Electronics). Works fine for what I need it for. I "mount" it in one of those soft drink holders that velcro's to the roll cage. Even with the little whip antenna, I've verified a range of over a mile in the hills.

I figure a mile would be plenty. I just need it for the guy in front and back to tell me what I am doing wrong on the trail. Trail rides would see the only use.

A lot of guys just use one of those emergency CBs you can pick up at Wally World or Target or wherever. They plug in the cig lighter and have a small mag mount antenna. I have seen them go for as little as $40 on Ebay and they work better than a handheld IMO. See ya at OCBR!
