not sure, but it did stop when I replaced the belt at least for a short time.

gonna try to squirt some water on the belt next start up and see if it changes anything.

I guess if it's just a squeaky new alt then it's no biggie and will prob go away but I don't like not being sure.

So the sound was gone after I swapped the belt. I've run it a good amount and now I have a sound again and sounds the same.

Maybe these belts suck? It's a Goodyear belt!

What are you guys running on Explorer front dress that you're happy with?

Not sure that's it, but WTH!
Do you have an alum crank pulley? Most of us had belt noises with the alum pulley that was sold out of a Bronco parts house in AZ 15 yrs ago (Driven???). The ONLY belt that we ever found to fix the chirp or the HIGH PITCHED screaming sound- it was beyond loud. My wife could hear it screaming while idling inside the house with the tunes playing. Log walls block almost all sound but not this.

Gatorback was the belt that fixed it. Continental now sells that belt and it will not squeal, chirp or whatever. 90% of the time it's alignment that causes it. I have found this to be a common problem on guys locally doing pulley, frt dress swaps, etc in our club. They never believe me as the belts look aligned but you throw the little laser alignment tool on and it brings them around.

Worth a try.

Not sure if it's aluminum but it's a new Explorer crank pulley/dampener/trigger wheel combo.

I found the Gatorback belts and was trying to figure out what happened to them and then saw the Continental and wasn't sure if that's what happened, so thanks!

I just started it up again and it didn't squeak right away but after a minute or two it did and I sprayed some water on a pulley and as soon as I did, the sound went away, so I'm not pretty sure it's the belt and I already went through the belt alignment nightmare, so gonna get the Continental.

This one?

I ordered that Continental belt. Fingers crossed the sound goes away and stays away.

I just wanna hear nice engine noises and the only whine should come from my timing gears!

Or blower whine! :)

It's the belt. Mine would squeal so loud that you couldn't hear someone yelling about 5 ft away and the microsecond water hit it would totally disappear. Nobody would believe it was so loud unless they were there.

Mine started by chirping.

I can't believe I never recorded it. You can ask my wife and a local Bronco buddy. I mean, it was so dang loud it wasn't even driveable. Normally I'd do something like drive across the field to my best friend and rev it up at about 4 in the morning next to his window but I'd have to pass a couple farm houses and those guys might have shot me to put me out of my misery. :)

So the sound was mostly gone but I could hear it occasionally and now it's back at full force. So, I've gotta assume that may e @36Fan is right and it's alternator but nothing I can do about that other than email support and ask them if it could be.

Looking for a positive here... well, you've got a good spare belt right?

Never heard an alternator make a noise as loud and unable to track as what you're describing! :(

I did have the serp tensioner pully brg wear cause the serp belt to track incorrectly on that pulley and when I replaced the brg (not the pulley) it went away.

Nope. All 3 pulleys are new. Everything is new. I need a stethescope or makeshift something to isolate it. If it weren't a rotating part I could use a screwdriver but I don't wanna break anything or myself.

I just ordered one off Amazon.

On a nice drive and lots of noises. Just pulled over and found a loose ps pulley and slipping belt. Craaap!

I swear I tightened that up!

Now I guess the questions are:

Did it come loose when my belt was misaligned or did I not tighten it? Is my belt still good or do I throw the other new one back on?

Damn.

Check the belt, it you can run it, run it until you can trouble shoot/resolve the slip issue

They are tight now and loctite to be doubly sure.

If that thing comes loose again, there's a problem with it.

I'm also sad to report that the pulley was not the source of the sound. Will find it for sure when my stethoscope comes.

Head scratching thoughts. You sprayed water on the belt and it went away? The noise appears after things warm up and expand, like something with very close clearances finally touching?

I haven't tried the water spray since I changed the belt so that's on my list for tomorrow to see if it still makes it go away or not.

No idea what to do if it does go away, but I will at least find out which pulley is doing it with the stethoscope (should come tomorrow). It might be that non-stock smaller lower pulley I put on for extra frame clearance...

So, it's the weirdest thing. It's not always there and it does go away with water on the belt still. Sometimes it's loud and sometimes it's gone.

Powermaster emailed back and asked for my phone number but I'm not sure it's the alt and pretty sure it isn't. The stethescope is coming tomorrow I guess.

I'm gonna fillmy AC system to see if that makes any difference but I don't want to run my engine any more than I have today already doing other stuff.
