Heater Control Valve

I recently acquired a 73 Bronco Sport with a 302. It currently does not have a heater control valve. I purchased one and would like to install it. Where does it go? I would assume in the engine compartment, but the heater control cable is way to short. Do I need a new longer heater control cable? Any help would be great. I am new to Broncos so sorry if seems like a stupid question.

Typically, the valve is back towards the firewall. I have seen it on the intake manifold depending if you are running the stock looking S shaped hose.

I don't think anyone makes a longer heater control valve cable. Make sure you have the right cable coming into the engine compartment... I made that mistake once

Thanks for the response. I know it’s the right hand knob/cable of the cluster closest to the glove box. There is what looks like a hole in the firewall that is for the cable, but if I use that hole it comes out right on top of the intake manifold. The hoses appear to be in the correct locations and I know which hose the control valve goes on, but still baffled to how that short cable will reach to where the control valve needs to be unless I reroute the hose. Thoughts?

Hose from the front of the intake manifold runs down the valley on top of the engine. Inboard of the valve cover, right next to the carb.
At the back of the intake is where the heater control valve goes.
The hose then follows the firewall over to the heater.
Yes, that is a short cable, that is correct.

I figured it out. The hose that the control valve goes on is routed wrong. I just need to route it correctly and then the cable will reach the valve. Thanks for your help.

If I remember correctly, it is the hose that connects to the top of the intake and not the water pump. My valve is mounted on top of the intake between the carb and the firewall.

Yes > intake is the feed and the water pump is the return
