A friend of mine got a parts truck. No VIN anywhere that we can tell. Guy says it was a '66. He's not so sure. See what you guys think. Removable door frames so it has to be at least 68, 67, or 66 right? Round door striker, not oval. So it would probably be a 67 or 66? inline 6 motor. Has a tailgate like a 66, you know with the one crease at the top instead of the hump at the top. Door handle and door lock are close together. Has a metal bracket mounted to the inner grill where the radiator would be for a jug(looks stock, but not sure). Tire jack directions were on the rear Pass. side inner quarter panel, not under hood. Tell ya what . I have many digital pics of it with pretty good detail of the differences. Can I e-mail them to anyone who is a 66,67,68, guru and can maybe figure it out. Thanksd Much,

Blue71

Round door striker post were only available on 66 & 67 so it is NOT a 68.

Now you're down to 66 or 67. The door handles on the 66-67 are a lever instead of a squeeze type handle on 68-77's so there is another tell tale sign.

Also, the 66 & 67 did have a slightly different handles inside on the door.

66 T-case shifter has a round rubber nob on top with the shift pattern on it where the 67 has the typical T style chrome handle.

If I'm not mistaken I think the ignition switch is on the left of the steering column on the 66 as well. Not sure on this though, Someone with a 66 will have to verify this or tell me I'm full of it. ;D

I think the T style handle was a mid year switch, like the D44 in '71.

I'm thinking the VIN for a '66 is supposed to be up under the dash on a '66?? Maybe on the upper kick panel area?
Joe

66 only items also are the rear shocks are in front of the rear axle, window and door handles have a set screw in the side, not the center.stock bumpers where cut on an angle on 67 up,some 66's have a steel left air vent, there are no 4 way flashers.
those area few of the 66 only specs.
there is a good detailed list of all mods for all years in teh JBG site under the specifications area.

Yeah, like Nick said about the rear shock mount. Instead of the long bolt-looking mount, it is more of a boxed bracket with a hole in it for the shock to go through.

From JBG site:
The inner door panels and the dash board were painted a gray color. The transfer case shifter in a 1966 was non-locking. It only had a ball on the end of it. There was a rear view mirror and a drivers side exterior mirror only. The drivers side mirror was a round mirror that mounted to the side of the fender. The hub caps offered on the vehicle had 3 black rings painted on them, without the red centers, which were to follow shortly. The front and rear bumpers were cut straight on the ends instead of on an angle. The tail lights were a solid red, without the white square for the reverse lights. The liftgate lock was not in the handle, it was mounted on the face of the liftgate, and to the side of the handle.

Hope this helps.

The forward mounted rear shocks were only until mid 66, then ford switched them to the rear canted shock mounts. The 66 should have a vin plate on the inner kick panel on the driver's side. If one isn't there, then check the top of the passenger side frame rail, just as it bends to go under the firewall. Get the vin off this area, and the rest will be easy to trace.

snake

I posted a few pics of the '66/ '67? Go to www.blue71.classicbroncos.com Photo Page #3. I have one of the shock mount(sorry it is sideways) The 3 '66's that I have seen in person had a single ridge on the tailgate. All other years seem to have a ridge that is a convex, bubbled up type line if that makes since like my 71 and 74. I can't get to the frame rail yet or I'd check there. Also, kick panel was patched so I can't get info. Maybe these pics will help. Seems kinda like a 67 with a 66 tailgate to me.

Thanks for the help guys,

Blue71

P.S.

No jokes about my shitty web site. ;D ;D

It's got a curved rear bumper and look at the knobs on the instrument panel-it doesn't have the '66 knobs with the white centers.

Todd Z.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't '67 the only year of the removable window frames?

J-DUB, the 66, 67 and 68 all had removable window frames. The 68 being the best, as it was geared for the striker posts from 68-77.

I think it's a 67.

snake
