Here's the poop...this guy has a "gross polluter" Ford van that he's turning into DMV for crushing. On it, he has a nice set of mag slots he wants to give me but he needs to drive it 50 miles to DMV. He has some 16.5" wheels with super old tires on it that are unsafe to drive on he could swap.....

Soooo... I need a throw away set of wheels and tires or a set of throw away 9.50 x 16.5 tires that I could pay to mount on his throw away wheels.......

All this has to be done by next Thurs or the slots go to the DMV crusher!

I will try the local tire shops today.....

Can anyone help? I'm in Tehachapi, Kommiefornia......

Pick up some wrecking yard wheels and tires. Probably cheaper than the mounting costs.

If you can't find any locally, drop me a pm. I have several from working on '70s Ford trucks.

Got my local tire store looking for a set to fit the van..wheels and tires, old...$120......mag slots for $120...not bad, huh? Probably should give the guy some money, too.

Are you sure the rims will fit? Center hole over the front hubs? Backspacing? Just because they are on a Ford van dosent mean they will fit. Mind you now 16.5 tires are pricey and sometimes hard to find. The rims also lack the safety bead. Here in NY the vehicle has to have the gas tank removed along with the tires for the yard to accept any vehicle. Dont need tires/gas tank where as the yard yute will impale the vehicle with its forks anyway to move it in the yard. I'm surprized calif dosent require that. The guys here just remove the tires when they enter the yard. Of course the vehicle is either towed or flatbeded seeing the tanks are removed.

Apparently, for the DMV buy back, it must run and drive in forward....some guy tried to bring one in once in reverse only.

The mags are not the 16.5s, the extra set of wheels are. No, didn't check back spacing and may be messing up here. Since it fits a 70s van, it should work is my thought. Don't intend on spending much at this point in case they don't fit. I did fit my Bronco's center cap over it and that part is good...even the three small screw holes lined up so they are probably Ford as my center caps are on my Ford white wagon wheel spokes....dunno.

Tehachapi is on Hwy 58 east of Bakersfield up in the mountains. Nice, I used to fly into their airport and a short walk to town for a good lunch.

Well, if you ever fly here again, let me know...always have beer (not good for flying back though)!
