Re-building the carb would probably be advisable if it has not already been done or you are not sure if it's already been done. Two bbl carbs are simpler to do but I am by no means an expert. I just got my Bronco down here Labor Day. You may want to check the fuel filters and/or gas tank. Old gas is not so good. There will plenty of other much more knowledgeable people to chime in soon though. You might want to do a search as I seem to remember a thread or two with a similar question as yours. Lots of great advice is here so you're in the right place. Enjoy the Bronco but be patient!

If it's hard to keep running when cold, it's probably due to the choke not working properly. Once it's warmed up, does it run alright? I'm sure a rebuild is a good idea, but your immediate problem can probably be fixed by spraying some carb cleaner on the choke mechanism.

If it still doesn't run alright when warmed up, then you probably have a different problem

X2 choke probably isn't working. Check the choke stove that goes down to the passengers side exhaust manifold. Probably rusted through or has been disconnected.

You will be hard pressed to find a 2bbl carb better than the stock one. Switching to a 4bbl will get you more power but also use more fuel. How about a pic of your setup. Still using factory air cleaner?

if you want a new carb for it, then a Holley 350 cfm 2 bbl is about a direct bolt new carb on as you can get. If you want the performance boost of a 4 bbl and don;t want to swap intakes, then their 500 cfm 2 bbl is the next choice.

I would stay with the stock 2v if it gives you the power you want. If you want 4v power edelbrock perflormers run great on the street but suck off road. If it goes off road get a q-jet.

I would give Guaranteed carbs a call. Sent them my 2100 and came back looking and running like new. They asked for motor specs and tuned the carb accordingly, bolted it on and never looked back. Very reasonable prices also. Just another opinion that's all.

If your little 2 bbl works fine when warmed up, keep it and fix the choke which is a simple fix.

The Q-jet 4bbl will ALWAYS get you better mileage when driven comparably-key phrase here... :)

Reason why you ask? Look at the primaries on a q-jet and compare them to the bottom of the 2 bbl. You are riding on the primaries most of the time and therefore you will have MUCH better throttle response and mileage when running on the smaller primaries of the 4bbl than on the 2bbl.

Proven...

Course if you're having fun and mashing the skinny pedal all the time you'll get worse mileage...

Have you checked to make sure your choke is closed when cold and voltage on connector when running? If your choke is open when cool and you have voltage at the connector when running, loosen the screws on the choke body and rotate it slowly to check for choke baffle operation. If it moves when rotated adjust it to until it just reaches the closed position and tighten the screws.Crank and watch the choke baffle until it opens. If that works you're done.I am no expert so you anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

You have a 2150 Motorcraft. You won't find a better carb. A book like Holley Carburetors and Manifolds from HP Books explains the proper functioning of any choke. Ford and Holley carbs are very similar. Some parts like choke thermostat caps and power valves are interchangeable. A good understanding of carburetor circuits will serve you well when problems arise. A $25 rebuilding kit not only provides parts and gaskets but a diagram showing proper assembly with set up specifications so you can get your choke working as designed. It's hard to diagnose a problem when everyone isn't using the same terminology.

Hard to tell from the small pics but looks like you have an electric only choke not a heated choke with a choke stove. That isn't factory but as mentioned the 2150 is an excellent carb. Make sure the choke closes when cold. Most times you have to hit the pedal for it to close. Sounds like the choke is out of adjustment. It looks like the electric element(the black disc) is rotated all the way forward which would prevent if from engaging much if at all. It should be around 2 notches forward of center.

Here is an excellent write up on the operation and adjustments of the 2100/2150.

As stated before..You wont find a better carb than the one you have. If you visit pony carbs website they list all the upgrades and changes they make to various carbs...read their review of the little 2100-2150. "No changes or modifications are necessary. Simply the best carb ever designed"
