Hello,
I am trying to replace the input shaft seal on a 4x4x2 box. I was hoping to do it with the box still in the truck, but I am having fits just getting the first seal out. I can't tell if it's a dust or actual shaft seal, but I can't get it out to get to the snap ring.
Has anyone done this while still in the truck? Or can I unbolt the valve body part of the case itself and just remove that part of the case without pulling the sector shaft etc?

Thanks for any help.

Can't help there. Never had one apart, but plenty here have. Hopefully you can do it the way you were hoping, without having to remove it.
But it sure is tight in that corner with that box!

Good luck.

Years ago, I replaced the input seal on a Lincoln box in the car. I drilled a couple of small holes in the old seal and screwed sheet metal screws into the seal so I had something to pry against. It worked really well in that situation.
