I have a leak at the gear selector mechanism/ neutral safety switch. How hard is it to replace the seal or gasket? It looks like I can get to it by dropping the front drive shaft, but I don't know what is involved in taking it apart and resealing it. My truck is a 1976.

It' real easy ,there is an o-ring behind the kick-down arm there are two types of o-rings,one is round the other is kinda flatend or squared. Any trans shop should have them. Dave

That is if it is the external seal, there is also an internal seal that requires dropping the pan and valve body. I did it in a day with no problems. I had a Ford shop manual though.

One is sealing the kick down, and one is sealing the shifter, if it is leaking behind the NSS than internal, if leaking out the center of the NSS than o ring.
Think I got that right. I replaced both and it was pretty easy, I was only baffled upon reassembly due to getting the lever to hit the slide right. Took about 20 mins of playing before I got it figured out and haven't looked back since.
