Hey y'all, new member here. I am getting ready to pick up a 73 U15 302, 3 on the tree from my brother. Trading an 01 Bullitt Mustang for it with some cash coming my way as well. I've got some pictures of the Bronco as it sits now, but not sure how to do the third party link to this page yet. Have a budget of roughly $4,500-$6,500 (I know it won't go too far, but it's a start). Looking to upgrade safety features such as brakes, steering, electrical, etc. I'm not really worried about cosmetics right now and may just clean the paint and re-spray clear. Body looks to be in good shape from pictures, although I haven't actually seen it in person in a few years since it is out of state from where I live. Have looked through many threads here and I am excited to begin this process. Will be picking the Bronco up in mid-May and getting started later that month.

Any advice on links, articles, vendors, experience or starting points would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Welcome ! You found a great life style, not just a hobby, and the best forum on the web ! I think Dirt Donk has a post on servicing a “new to you” Bronco. I will look for it. And otherwise just pick a subject and search. Also check out best method for searching on web. And become Contributor to post pics and other perks. Take it from an old guy “Focusing on making memories, not money”.

Mike, below is site with good broad brush article, including alittle history and suggested work order of systems inspections and mods. Just don’t take their sequence of work projects as gospel. Deciding on The Plan is first order of business: on road %, off road % and type (trails; Rockcrawler, sand) trailer or street legal, comfort mods, performance mods, aesthetics, etc. Why I really don’t know because it constantly changes as u increase ur knowledge and define your intended use. Along those lines, dont go parts buying crazy (other than regular maintenance and safety) until u fine tune your final used and how each system can best achieve ur goal by complimenting the others. Don’t ask. Like get too big tires for your gears, axles or trans. Don’t ask, After, like I did. Time to ask our expert friends is before.

Hey Mike - welcome aboard great bunch of people here with a ton of knowledge to share. There are documented tech tips on a lot of the common modifications to your bronco...also a good search function that comes in handy when you have topics you need information on it will pull up existing threads on the topic. Also keep an eye on the classified for sale section for parts you might need...you can often get good quality used parts and even new unused parts at good prices. The vendors who advertise here are also very good and can guide you on mods or questions. Now get her running and safe then drive the heck out of it.

Where are you located, that can help with determination on which vendors to use as shipping can play a huge roll in keeping costs down. Welcome aboard and good luck on the truck!

Welcome and best wishes on your entry into the world of Broncos.

On the mechanical side, virtually every question you have has been answered, or can be answered from the cumulative knowledge of the people here. As others said, get the safety items handled first, then go from there.

Have fun!
