I want to change the pulley on my alternator. It seems simple enough, the pulley is held on with a single nut. But I need to hold the alternator and pulley in place so it doesn't spin around while I crank the bolt off with a wrench. My question is what is the best way to hold the pulley so it doesn't spin? Do I just clamp it in a vise to hold it in place? My concern would be damaging the pulley from the clamping force of the vice. The nut is on there pretty good and it seems like its gonna take a lot of force to get it off. This seems like a dumb question but I thought I'd ask before I did something stupid and regret later not asking the question.
