im gonna go with the grizzly yukon locker for the front instead of rebuilding a Detroit. Basically same design and grizzly is suppose to have better/stronger internals.

Anyone running either or ? is the front detroit really breaking as much as i read they are ??

I was asking the same question about the 9".
I went with the Detroit.
I have "read" about people breaking Detroits but I've never seen it. I think that is probably only common with the rock crawling crowd. As I understand it, the different internals of the Yukon are better able to tolerate a catastrophic axle failure. There were "alot" of 28 spline (ie stock axles) Detroits sold over the years. This may explain some of those failures.

Yukons are assembled in the US but apparently not made here.

It's a fairly common failure mode for the locking mechanism in the Detroits to self-destruct when it is violently loaded-unloaded from the recoil during an axle failure event.

I've only had one axle snap on the Detroit in a rear D60 I've got and the Detroit survived it OK. But as axle failures go, mine seemed rather benign. A "tink" and not a "BANG!!!!"

I twisted the splines off on a 28 spline rear axle wheeling at Telico years ago, the Detroit was unfazed. It has been working well since 1989. Someday, I will upgrade axles when I break another 28 spline axle. When I do, I will go with another Detroit.

I have a yukon 35 spline grizzley locker in the rear of my bronco so far it has held up good seems to have more poping and banging the the detroit soft locker i personally like the detroit locker better but the yukon locker has a much better warrantee and they are cheaper not by much i use my bronco on the road a lot btw

I "think" you can just replace the side gears and keep using your Detroit when you upgrade your shafts.

i think detroits are great, the problem seems to be for front d44s. internals not being as strong as a yukons, and i do have the 30spline chromolys for it.

I installed the grizzly in my 14 bolt because of 2 reasons; it was cheaper $ than the Detroit, and grizzly will guarantee up to $2000 in damage caused by a failure of their locker. A company that stands by their product, especially if they will pay up to $2000 and give you another locker if it fails. Oh yeah, lifetime warranty.
Just my .02
