rich from wild horses let me drive his truck out at bronco daze and i couldn't believe the difference. it had a great pedal and stopped like a dream. if i had a choice and the money, i'd do hydroboost.

I always had manual brakes in my EBs.
I got a powerbooster from a parted 77 so I tried it out. I was to squoosy for me, the manual brakes were more responsive. Untill I got an Astro hydroboost unit from TOFIC, so I tried it out.

I will never go back!!

I now have two stock EB powerboost (vac) units on the shelf and one is brand spanking new in the box with MC. I have another Astro unit to install in my other 77 for later. I may keep the Vac unit to use with the Auto C4 but if I didn't have it, it would be hydro all the way.

Once you use Hydroboost you will wonder how you were ever able to stop before. Take a set of manual brakes and consider the stopping potential if you had bionic legs. That is what hydroboost gives you. I can easily hit the floorboard with mine and all 4 of my 37" tires lock up long before then.

Also do a search on hydroboost brakes and you'll have enough reading to keep you busy for hours.

As everyone said, hydro is the way to go. I can't think of any drawbacks at all, unless you already had the booster set-up, then it would be cost. But if you are starting from manual brakes, I think it is cheaper to go hydro than vacuum. I only have about $150 in my hydro set-up...

The only other drawback is the first time you drive with the hydro setup - if you are used to manual brakes and you aren't careful, you might find yourself in the windshield!

Even if you already have Vacuum Brakes the cost isn't really a factor. A good used booster and bracket can be sold for about the same cost as a used Hydroboost setup as long as you already have power steering. I don't recall how much I sold mine for but I pretty much broke even on it.
