What type of fittings should I be using for the cooler lines? I have NPT threaded T in there so I could put my elec temp sender inline with both inlet and outlet.. but its leaking like mad... also should I be using oil safe joint compound on the threads? or teflon tape? nothing? This is the last nagging problem from my swap, I just need some more info please... should I ditch the idea of having two senders and just plug the sender in somewhere else???!!??

Sorry.. but this is getting frustrating and I need to have it working well Friday evening.

!!! H-E-L-P !!!

TIA,
Matt

Teflon tape is what I use especially if it's brass. Is it leaking from threads? I'm still not sure what you are trying to do so here goes. Use brakleen to clean off the excess oil and use about 5 layers of tape. Wind the tape on the threads the same direction you would tighten the fitting. If it's installed with a compression fitting, the tubing has to be smooth and free of dirt or rust. Sometimes Scotchbrite is needed to clean the tubing before sliding the ferrule on. If your compression fittings are already crimped, then you might try taking the joint apart an smearing a thin film of RTV on it then wait a couple minutes before tightening the fitting again. ~BH

Inlet and outlet of what? Radiator or trans? The trans has straight threads and uses o-rings to seal it. Dont screw pipe threads into the case of a C-4 or you're asking for trouble. The Rad is NPT, so you're OK there.

This is the inlet/outlet of the transmission I am having trouble with here... so looks like I asked for trouble (used NPT fittings)... it seemed to thread ok for about two turns then got a little tight. How bad did I F%$@ this up?!!?

Where can I get the right parts, what are the right parts to plumb the cooler lines into the transmission?

Where should I install the guage sender if I cannot figure out how to install them inline with both the inlet and outlet (I did this with a switch so I can toggle to see the temp going into or out of the cooler to see if it is working well or not)?

I am more worried about the leak than the guage obviously... Thanks.

If you buggered up the threads use the loctite 565 thread sealer. it will get you through this thread leaking problem. It is amazing stuff.

Try putting the stock fittings back on with a new o-ring. If they screw in you might be ok. Then you might try locating the fittings and senders at the entrance and exit of the cooler itself.

That was the problem, I dont have the stock fittings...

I did some hunting around and they are both special fittings..

The outlet is a jam nut with o-ring (APC part number A26996 619-233-6215) and the return is an 5/16 inverted flare to male npt thread.... so HOPEFULLY... I didnt muck up the outlet jam-nut side... will go buy the right part and see what the verdict is.

ATC has the brass elbow with the jamb-nut Part#A26996 but that was a mustang/pinto fitting. You need the straight-in steel fittings without the jamb-nut that have 5/16" inverted flare and the o-ring seal up against the case. Too bad you dont live near me, I'd give you what you need for free. It is a specialty fitting though and your best bet is boneyard. Again, both front and rear threads in the C-4 case are Not NPT. Dont use C-5 fittings either, they will fit just fine but the orifice is too small to be used with C-4 hydraulic requirements.

66horse stopped by and gave me alift to APC.. we discovered tha indeed that is the wrong part.... I have another flare fitting (came with the cooler and seems to fit nicely) that I can put in there that I think will work... but it doesnt have the o-ring part... ford doesnt stock it anymore.. cant find it at the parts houses... I will be at the junkyard on Sat.. I will look for one then... if I cant find one.. and you have extra.. could I buy one from you and get you to drop it in the mail for me?
