Hub o-ring: Where can I find it?

So I was doing maint on my front hubs, and I totally destroyed the o-ring that goes around the 'silver' part ( the one that has the 6 hex head bolts in it), since its around 3" in diameter, I am having slight difficulty locating a replacement. The local Autozone/Kragen/Pepboys/Napa doesnt have anything like that, and I would like to try and stay with a local place before I go mail-order.

Any ideas? I am in the bay area, but if you have a chain-store in mind, please suggest!

Thanks!

Ditto on what bigjhoov said, but I once needed an O ring for a KC headlight and could not find what I needed at the hardware store. I went to several auto supply stores as well and nobody had one that size %)

I ended up going by a hydraulic supply and repair place and the guy takes me back to a wall board the runs the whole length of the room, with something like two hundred thousand different size O rings, he ended up finding the one I needed and gave it to me for free ;D

I just got a couple from Tom's. They have all the o-rings, snap rings & springs to service stock hubs. If you need to put it together today, RTV works in a pinch.

What part of the Bay Area? If you don't have a hardware/hydraulic supplier nearby, a 4wd specialty shop might have a few laying around, or at least have a Warn rebuild kit handy that you can buy.

Do you have stock or aftermarket hubs? I don't think the o-rings are all the same, but you might find that the seals for one will still work with another.

If stock, you could always try the nearest Ford dealer. That's where I used to get mine. It's been awhile though, so it might not be a good part anymore. It's still probably worth a call to your local dealer if you don't find another source.

Depending upon the time of day, I am either in Santa Clara or Palo Alto. I have been searching the hardware stores, but I haven't had any luck. I was thinking a hydraulic shop, but haven't had time to investigate that one...

If these are the stock type hubs, your best bet might be Santa Clara Truck Wreckers on Comstock (Lafayette and Central Expwy 408-727-2244) or call Frontier Ford (Stevens Creek at San Tomas 408-241-1800) and see if their parts department still carries them in stock.
Frontier has been trimming down their old parts for the past few years, so they might not have them. But they are a small, inexpensive item after all, so you never know.
You could also try Mission Valley Ford (880 at Brokaw near Montague 408-933-2300). They're trucks only, so might have a few in stock.
One of the better auto parts stores in the area is Winchester Auto (Winchester at Hamilton 408-866-1222) and might be worth a shot too. If whoever answers the phone does not know what you're talking about for some reason, ask for Gary, Craig, Kyle, or Alan.

If you've got aftermarket hubs, try Calabazas RV (Lafayette at Central in Santa Clara 408-982-0859. They're Jeep guys but might have that kind of thing laying around or have a Warn service kit handy.
There's a 4 Wheel Parts store on San Carlos St near downtown San Jose (408-279-4979 and if they don't have a Warn service kit, they can probably get it quickly from Hayward.
If they're not Warn hubs, I don't know who might have the seal locally, but the Warn pieces would likely be identical.

I don't have any laying around or I'd give you some.

As a fall-back, you can always just spread a little silicone around the perimiter of the outer hub and ring, after you've installed them, to seal it off form outside contaminats. That's what I've ended up doing on several Broncos when the seals alone were not enough. That was in those cases where even with a seal, the outer cap was just too loose and wobbly and I wanted some extra piece of mind.

Good luck.

Tasker,

In the Ford kit, the O-ring is correct, snap rings too. Screws were the wrong size for my 77.

GM part number for the o-ring is 9175D5 or 3937070. 75 Blazer with dana 44, (No  ) it is all spicer stuff anyway...
